I just got back from Ohio LinuxFest 2005 (http://www.ohiolinux.org/) and it was a pretty big success. Good sized crowd, lots of good discussion tracks and a decent group of exhibitors (the schwag was average but not bad). The facility was nice (Columbus Convention Center) and we had a good sized floor area and 3 large meeting rooms; all the discussions I attended attracted good sized crowds usually around 300-350 per room (I'm not great at guessing these things, but I was impressed with the head count, but that might be a little high or low). I would say overall there were at least 1,200 people in attendance.
The last lecture I went to was Jorge Castro (http://www.whiprush.org/) who gave a really passionate and upbeat presentation on Ubuntu and a breif demo of Breezy (and a brief interlude with Aaron Seigo from KDE to talk about Kubuntu). LOTS of hands went up when he asked if there were any Ubuntu users in the room and LOTS of Hoary CDs got handed out to the rest of the group.
I think we can expect some new faces around here after this lecture, but the majority in attendance were already Linux users so that should be interesting. I went down to Columbus last night but got in a little late so I missed the pre-conference party, but the crowd was decent sized and enthusiastic. I"m definitely going back in 2006 and have a much more serious interest in getting some excitment built around my local LUG.

Sounded fun.

Can anyone get into those things or do you have to be connected to the IT world?

Open to the public, pre-registration preferred. You should check out WPLUG (http://www.wplug.org/), Western PA LUG, they had a big presence there today.

Glad you liked it Bob! The final number of Ubuntu CDs given out was over 900. (I brought 400 and the organizers had 500.)

I was totally surprised at how many people were there. I hope the event continues to grow, it'd be great to have Mark or Jeff stop by for one year.
