This is a simple poll, the question is:

Do you plan to buy a Google Android phone?(Yes or No)

My answer is an overwhelming yes! What could be better then a Linux OS put out by Google?

For reference here is a slightly dated article about the Google Android (Linux)OS for mobile cell phones.

Google Android phones make debut

A number of firms are showing off Android-enabled phones
Google mobile boss (http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/player/nol/newsid_7230000/newsid_7238900?redirect=7238965.stm&news=1&bbwm=1&bbram=1&nbwm=1&nbram=1&asb=1) The first mobile phones to be loaded with Google's Android software for mobile phones have gone on show. About a dozen companies such as ARM, Texas Instruments and Qualcomm showed off prototype handsets at the annual Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The free software system was launched in November 2007 and is being developed by an alliance of more than 30 companies including Google.

The first Android-enabled phone is expected to go on sale later this year.

One firm showing off a prototype phone was the UK processor designer ARM.

"It's really a demonstration vehicle rather than a full phone," Ian Drew of ARM told BBC News.
However, he said the wireless phone did show off several applications.

"What we are demonstrating on the Android platform is maps, browser, camera applications, multimedia, e-mail, and calendar - basically everything you'd expect on a mobile phone."

Open world
The Google Android platform is based on open source Linux software that allows developers access to the underlying code.

This allows programmers much greater flexibility to build applications and features tailored to individual phones.

Other companies also showed off Android prototypes such as Marvell, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, NEC and ST Microelectronics.

Korean handset manufacturer Samsung has also said it hopes to have a phone based on Android by early next year.

Android was not the only Linux platform making waves in Barcelona.

The Mobile Linux foundation said that 18 phones from seven different firms would be demonstrated at 3GSM using its Limo software.

LG and Samsung were amongst handset manufacturers showing off Limo devices.

I can't vote since I don't like phones in general, and definitely don't keep a mobile. If I ever had to, I would consider a phone operating with free software first, however I have no plans to make any purchase at this time.

Here is a peak at a rumored "gPhone"...

Admittedly I like the look of this shot better:

I don't think I'll buy a smartphone anytime soon, so no. Otherwise, Android does look very nice.

It depends on the price. I'd much rather have an iPhone though.

I wouldn't have an iPhone if they paid me to use it.

On this site there is a bit of news about android and there is a video of a alpha version on a phone.

I need to have a new mobile soon and hope there is a linux version then. Also hope to see a nokia smarthphone with Qtopia soon.

If it handles GPS I would consider updating my current low-tech phone.

This phone looks hideous! Id much rather have a sleek good looking OpenMoko (http://www.openmoko.com) based phone. OpenMokos Neo Freerunner is expected to go on sale during April, so keep your eyes out for that phone too ;)

More info here! (http://www.openmoko.org)

Edit: I hope this doesn't sound like a spammy / advertising post :)

Its either between OpenMoko or Android. Whichever comes out better, I'll go for it! :)

Short answer: No.
Long answer: I'm getting a Freerunner when the "mass production" release comes out around the end of the month. The Freerunner, being an ARMv4-based device, can not run Android, but I'd much prefer the true and complete openness of OpenMoko.

no, i don't think its possible. Symbian against Open Source (Google Android) « Symbian World (http://symbianworld.wordpress.com/2008/01/23/symbian-against-open-source-google-android/)

new nokia phones though might have this feature. I think it is a SHAME that u can't change the OS on ur mobile phone.

I don't see why. I'd use the iPhone if it cost me a $100 (but as it costs far more, I don't plan on it...) It's a great piece of hardware, and with the real SDK *finally* being released, it'll be even better.
