I think their only major release is going to be two 8800gts512s bolted together. I'm waiting for the 10 series before I upgrade my 7950 (though I'll bump up the volt mods soon).

I'm @ 795/1630 (+0.1 volts) atm. Bump this up to +0.2v & it should still be a serious contender. Don't bother with the 9600, either get one of the future GX2s or wait longer for the 10 series. The 9600 is certainly good value, though it'll not be a huge improvement for you.

http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/nvidia-9600gt-review.ars

From what i've read previously (not arstechnica) it's similar performance to 8800gt but a lot cooler and uses the 45nm fab production.

It will not even compare to the 8800GT. However, it will introduce extra performance to the mid-range market for a very reasonable price.

I forgot they were also comparing the 256mb version of the 8800gt, didn't know it existed

According to them, the 9600gt is only, on average, 12% slower than the 8800gt 512mb

^ I'm surprised the difference isn't double that, certainly good value. ;)
