Wow! I fell in love with the video. The music playing in the background is awesome, too.

But this looks like the Freespire web page has been hacked by an Ubuntu fan. I hope this is not the case, because all Linux distro's share the same goal, to give back the freedom to computer users, who were enslaved by invisible M$ chains.

What bar is that at the bottom? How does it get that knocking about the icon etc effects?

Also yea it does seem to be a bit counter productive in terms of the overall idea of FOSS.

Yeah I agree...the dock looked like AWN.

Mine does all that he showed except my open windows don't move out from the cube. Anyone know how he did that?

The coolest thing was running that vid as his walpaper I thought.

The music is from Metal Gear Solid 3:Snake Eater I believe and the dock is Kiba-Dock.

That website address is not owned by Linsprie/Freespire.
Someone bought the domain and proceeded to set it up because of their dislike to Freespire.

Watched the video and loved the music and all the fancy windows work.

Lastly, everyone has his/her opinion about a distro, and this site is no different.

Check out the home page of http://freespire.com

There is a cool demo video playing for Ubuntu 6.10 with XGL & Kiba-Dock.

Very interesting. Is Freespire on the ropes?

Looks like freespire.com is owned by someone hostile to freespire, which is located at freespire.org. I don't like that sort of thing... not respectable.

However, I would agree that freespire is in trouble. Linspire should refocus itself on making money through CNR, which might be possible, and making sure CNR works on all major distros. Maintaining their own distro isn't working out so well for them.

they ought to be careful, the linspire people are experts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_vs._Lindows) at trademark law. :-)

That's too bad really. Freespire really was not a bad distro. They have a half decent KDE release, very easy to set up with most codecs already installed, and to be honest CNR really is not horrible.

Looking at their roadmap (http://wiki.freespire.org/index.php/Freespire_Roadmap)though, it doesn't look like they have anything new going on for freespire.

LOL

Actually, this wouldn't violate anyone's trademark. Freedom of speech allows for sites critical of a product, service or trademark (there are many of these for Microsoft ;-). The site doesn't use the Freespire logo anywhere, and it's certainly not confusing that this site is NOT from the trademark holder (Linspire).

The odd part, however, is how Linspire let such a critical domain name get out of their control. Does suggest a lack of "taking care of business" on their part, or maybe they just don't care anymore, knowing that Freespire has never caught on. I see it's at number 27 on Distrowatch.

That would suck if ubuntu.com went to someone else's site.

Who ever it is its sad ... i cant believe we have someone that would do something like this among us ... especially to another distro, makes me feel kinda dirty really.

I know i would recommend ubuntu before fedora but I won’t go out of my way like this.

this is basically someone airing his dirty laundry in public.

As said above, it looks like someone is very annoyed with Freespire and is promoting Ubuntu.

The irony is that Freespire is a variant of Ubuntu - So he is really promoting "Ubuntu Pure" and putting down "Ubuntu Plus".

There's a setting in Beryl that allows you to do it. I think it's under the "Cube" category.

LOL In this case the pictures speak louder than the deception.

Rod Serling Voice Over:

For the audience's review:
One) A notice of an intriguing new 'cool' video and licentious comments about a company '...on the ropes.'

...And Two) A Gallery of Rogues tour with two portraits: First, a wild eyed semblance of a posters avatar and a matching 'curled fingers' partner on the freespire.com stock photo...

With tongue firmly in cheek, I can't help but smile thinking about what the episode should be called.

In computing, free and open source software, also F/OSS, FOSS, or FLOSS (for Free/Libre/Open Source Software) is software which is liberally licensed to grant the right of users to study, change, and improve its design through the availability of its source code. This approach has gained both momentum and acceptance as the potential benefits have been increasingly recognized by both individuals and corporate players.

Not hacked. The Freespire site has always been freespire.org. Some other company had the .com site since '04 or so and I think they just let the registration expire and this person just bought it recently.

Looks like they are using a "domains-by-proxy" so they can hide their info.

Nice video however... :guitar:

This thread has been moved to the Community Cafe(what on earth was it doing in the Market):-k.

By the way, the link you have provided is not the official Freespire web page, so this is not an issue of a hack, instead it is an issue of a clone.

I agree.I started with Linspire and moved to freespire...I enjoyed the 'spires..But I distro hopped to Klikit a little after the MS deal.
I admit to having mixed feelings about the web page..The part of me that is still angry about the Microsoft deal and some of the things KC said,is amused, but the other part agrees with the other posters and finds it in very poor taste.

And i have no idea why I posted it there...Not thinking...
