Ok folks, I have to say I think Ubuntu has finally converted me. I have recently installed Ubuntu 7.1 http://www.itsupportnotes.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-desktop-a-linux-os-for-everyone.html and think I can finally use Linux as an OS. I have tried a few times in the past and just found it too difficult to get the basics done. Ex. MP3s, printing, and networking. With Ubuntu the install was a snap and just about everything I needed worked from the install.

Anyway the real reason I register was because I noticed there was a great deal of open source software available, but I could not find any for Linux certification. Does any one know where I can find some open source Linux certification software? I'd really love to learn more.

Thanks:)

It wasn't so long ago that installing any GNU/Linux was a challange to the technically adept, and impossible for the unskilled. Now there are lots of distributions that have made it easy, with Ubuntu leading the pack at least in visibility (I think other distributions can be more user-friendly).

Well with linux there is no need for certification, you just need a computer, a mouse, a monitor and a keyboard to be granted permission and stuff to learn linux.

Are there any industry certification like MCSE? I am going to DL the Ubuntu Server Edition and play with it for a while.

Yes there are, the most important probably is RHCE https://www.redhat.com/training/ which is related to Redhat enterprise products.

I think redhat does one and I think there is also a general linux one but I don't know much about them.

Is Red Hat the only certification? If not which one is more widely used in the IT industry.

I actually like the OS so much I'm starting to look for Linux jobs. When meeting with software reps I actually ask them if they a version of their software for the Linux platform.
