She says she will spend between $500 and $700, but I think she can get away with a computer from $300-$500, The only problem is I can't find one that cheap. Mine was pretty cheap, but Vista didn't run on it. I think if Vista sucks on her laptop I might have to install Ubuntu. Any suggestions?

What about this?

I was going to suggest a ZaReason, but they seem to be out of stock on the 15" laptops (which were the ones in your price range).

Get a Dell, they come in lots of different nice colours (that's what girls look at first... ;) ) and you get a Dell with Ubuntu pre-installed.

For the $500-$750 range :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2030260032+4021&name=%24500+-+%24750

THey have like 89 to choose from

For the $400 - $500 only 7 to choose from....

I recommend HP, don't recommend Toshiba.

This HP looks worthwhile...be sure to read the reviews on the products you check on newegg.com they are really helpful.

Watch your local retailers deals. They can bring the price down to $300. Online will only get you to $400 probably.

Why pink?

Let's not traffic in stereotypes here. Thanks.

Perhaps the stereotype is related to Valentine? Pink after all is one of the colours of Valentine.

Then it would be a little late, or extremely early.

Really? Oops. Here, I've been looking at the CPU, memory, and hard drive specs. Wish someone had informed me sooner that I was supposed to look at colour first.

system76.com or zareason.com.

Both offer good value products.

I wouldn't use this as my main PC as it is quite small physically and I would need a larger hard drive.

But it's exactly what I have been looking for, I'm really glad you mentioned it.

I needed something larger than a PDA, but smaller than a laptop, I had no idea these were available. Plus Linux is pre-installed, it's super adorable, and I happen to like pink... so it's perfect.

Don't worry, none of us knew.

(As for laptops, I prefer ThinkPads, which come in many colours, as long as it is black)

i was about to say this, but this is the most imp question that u need to ask urself.

Find one that she really finds useful in the long run. She must happy with each and every time she uses it. For this, 1st understand her "needs".
What (tasks) does she use her pc for?
should it be visually appealing?
would she buy such a laptop herself?
r u ready to spend time selling ubuntu to her/ supporting her PATIENTLY???( rather than getting angry)
is she a techno? if yes, ask her the model no ans she'll tell u??!!!:):D

Basically, she would be happy with the laptop in my sig (my laptop).
