Yikes! Vista on that machine? Depending how late in the year you're thinking of installing Hardy, it may just have booted up for the first time by then (better switch it on now, just to be sure).

Seriously, though, that would be a sweet little machine to get Ubuntu on.

I've seen those in electronics shops around here but I haven't bought one, mostly because the models I see are in the 500Mhz K6-2 range, and I already have a full-size one of those. :D

They are pretty cool though. I've read that Ubuntu will work on them, although I think the processor speed might make it better suited for a different distro.

I don't think a Dothan core'd CPU @ 800mhz is in the low speed range of a K6-2. Let alone the Mhz difference, the K6-2 is years behind the Dothan core.

My lady just confirmed that her Kojinsha (mentioned above) runs Vista Aero and feels rather snappy compared to her previous machine - an Athlon T-bred 1.1 w/1GB RAM and dedicated Radeon 8500 running XP SP2. Later she's going to try out some 3D games and web apps while online and we'll see how the thing really shapes up, but I've got the feeling it'll be a surprisingly good experience.

I feel you're thinking about the earlier Kojinsha's that were Geode-based. - http://www.kohjinsha.com.sg/products/sa1f00ks.htm

vs

However even they used a T-bred based core which far exceeds the ancient K6-2.

Yes, that's what I was saying, but I didn't say it quite right. The ones I saw in the stores were Geode-based. I haven't seen faster than that, but I haven't really looked.
