I have finished changing over to Dreamhost, and my Arch Linux tutorial website is now complete! Some of the tutorials are also good for all general distros, for example the Linux Jargon page. I hope you like it, and if you see any bugs in the layout please tell me :) I am still working on the logo. All I need to do is add tux to the book I made in Inkscape and it'll be ready!

Your site needs a bit of an overhaul I'm afraid. I'm not even going to get started on the design, but I can say that it took ages to load (the right-side menu bar), and I'm on a 100mbps connection.
Second, I can't click on the titles of the blog posts. The URL is not valid, and example is: http:///?q=blog/miggols99-3
As you see, it gives me a / instead of the base URL. Your online thingy is a little weird too, as it doesn't register me as a guest.

But anyway, I hope you get it worked out. Arch tutorials are greatly appreciated!

The site comes up fast for me. I would suggest moving the navigation panel left of the main dialog box. The color scheme is great, but needs some softening.

Good luck!

You have some nice guides. I'll probably use them to try Arch in VirtualBox.

Site loads fine for me. Don't forget the Arch wiki ;)

I think this thread fits better in the Arch Linux sub forum then the cafe ...

Which part do you mean? Move the sidebar?

Hmm that's quite strange. May be a problem with pathauto (module that makes URLs prettier)... EDIT: Seems like my node-blog.tpl.php (theme for blogs) was the problem. Now fixed!

The color scheme is great, but needs some softening.
So should I make the green less intense? I put it as #00EE00 which was really bright and turned it down again...even less bright?

I second softening the green, the green links on the white background aren't very easy on the eyes. Maybe try something similar to #3D8B37.

Ok I turned down the links (I thought you wanted the whole site to be softened,,I hope not because that would take forever!) and I agree that it looks much better than before.

I have now finished the logo! I decided to not include the penguin (although I would really like to) and just do a book. I'll upload it now...

Yes, we mean everything. The links are a nice color now, but the green and the black both need to be softened.

Might I recommend using a font w/ borders? " Archux
Arch Linux Tutorials" gets blends in w/ your clouds. Other than that your site looks fine, I myself would use less colors, pick two colors and then vary off those 2 specified colors, but that's just me and I like minimalistic. Nice site overall. =]

I have a text shadow on the Archux Arch Linux Tutorials but this only works in Opera, Webkit and Konqueror unfortunately :(

@Nevon: How do you turn down a black without making it grey? Grey would look quite awful here IMO.

They're hard to find, but a quick google, came up w/ these (http://www.fontspace.com/category/two-tone) for example. I guess if you were unable to find a font you like you could always use a image w/ a transparent background.

There are plenty of good greys out there.

Just two examples. Personally I like it around #313131.
Still, I don't think black fits all that well with the rest of your color scheme.

This is strange. I just looked at my site on my other computer and the colours (especially the green) looks absolutely horrible! Maybe my laptop screen is showing colours wrong?

Hi! I took a look and it seems fine on my monitor. I do have the gamma turned down quite low, but it looks good, very readable. I am always disappointed when I go to a site that I want to find out something and the color scheme is not made for regular people. Like red on black in really small point, with some crazy background. Makes me run the other way!:)

I would advise you to calibrate ALL your displays. LCD displays are a bit harder to calibrate than CRTs due to the nature of the beast.

See these links:
http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html
http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/viewing.htm

I know KDE has a built in Gamma utility under the display settings so does the nVidia settings utility. Don't know about gnome but there should be a gamma correction utility

I wish all web designers would calibrate their displays as some of them look really horrible.

I have decided to drop the green and blue theme because it is a mess! Zen (a theme for building on) is a big mess and I decided to start from scratch. There are still a few problems with the navigation bar, but I'm hoping I'll be able to fix that quite quickly. There's my little inkscape creation :D The colour scheme is much less intense so your eyes don't explode from looking at it :)

I have released the new theme now. What do you guys think? I think it is a breath of fresh air especially since it's so much more easier to maintain (code isn't so messed up) and a much fresher look. I am also working on some videos for the installation guide, my first one is for Cfdisk..is there any program in Linux I can use to add subtitles to the video?

I would soften a bit the red of "run as root" and the blue of "information", there's too much contrast between those and the background I think.

Thanks for your work, by the way :)

What colours do you suggest I use? Red is a "danger" colour, but it I lighten it, it will be pink, which won't look good. I'm sure a light blue would look ok, but do you think I should have anything else?

Pick your favorite, install Agave and find a scheme you like. ;)

What I usually do to soften colours is making them a bit transparent in Inkscape and see what color comes up. Then I try to reproduce the nuance without transparency. A colour picker does the job. Just don't use the Inkscape one because it will pick the transparency as well, which so far is not supported by CSS and web browsers. Or just export a png image and pick the colur of that one...

I have added quite a few pages, and improved the site. By suggestions, I added a "New Tutorials" box at the top of the front page. It is also styled a lot better. I have also added pictures of random Linux distros above the adsense ads. :) it adds a lot more colour.
