It seems like Pidgin development has ground to a halt.

There has been no blog updates since the 6th of December and no update release since the 7th of December. At one time Pidgin 3.0 was planned to be released on January 1st.

Checking their roadmap, they've also removed the dates for their milestones:

Hmm, slightly concerns me. Pidgin was en route to being the premier Linux im client. Closest thing to Adium we could hope for. Lets hope we hear something good from the devs sooner or later. *crosses fingers*

Pidgin has always been odd in this regard, as long as I can remember anyway. They can go for quite a while without making any noise, then something gets released.

Doesn't adium use libpurple?

Pidgin does this. It's not in active development. They seem to simply update it when they have time every 6 months or so.

You can track development of pidgin here (http://cia.vc/stats/project/pidgin). Seems like a pretty active project.

Sure enough. The lack of updates and info on the website fooled me.

Thanks for that.

You got me worried then, I thought Pidgin was going to be discontinued. It is the best IM client by far.

Pidgin the future? I thought I heard a rumor of some neat client named telepathy or something?

Yes. Adium is based on Pidgin.

I'm following Pidgin's roadmap since a year from now, and i used to follow the closing tickets in each Milestone.

But it's been more than a mont.. a MONTH! that Pidgin devs are not closing even a single ticket! I'm wondering if Pidgin is still supported and alive.

pidgin is great, but until they do voice and possibly webcam support, it can't touch the more mature stuff on windows.

i just wish there was an official google IM on linux that did voice. all my windows friends complain at me that i can't do it on my 'superior' OS (as i tell them)
i don't care about supporting the stupid myspace protocol GRR
