Hi,

I like to have a fancy *eye-candy* nuvola like theme that shows off x.org

keywords :
blue,transparancy

Let's discuss together about it. Agree to something nice and create it :)

I'll do icons if you'd like. If you click on "Art & Themes Gallery" on the top of the page, you can see a few I've done.

I'm in if we make it all SVG (well, at least the icons). That way we can scale the images to any size and use SVG-Utils (http://programmer-art.org/svg-utils) to recolor the theme to whatever we like very easily.

I know, shameless plug to a work in progress.

Do you have any ideas about how the theme should look (more specific than transparent and blue), what the general idea around it should be, how we will handle normal icons vs. document icons (theme wise), etc...

I would be interested in a theme that really shows off SVG's potential using the filter tags: http://w3c.org/TR/SVG11/filters.html. To be honest I've thought about redoing GNOME's default theme completely in SVG and asking if Jimmac is interested, but I'm up for whatever as long as I'm not in charge (too busy at the moment for that).

Do it :) Default Gnome icon theme is beautifull, it should be perfect to have it redone in SVG. I got from somewhere SVG versions of hard drive icons, and it's very nice.

Not really I'm not much of a creative guy. But I like Nuvola. And it would be nice if I had a theme that makes use of the cool things x.org has because I want to see them.

Maybe a bit like aqua ? I saw some quicktime movies a while ago ... I've never seen it. I'm gonna try
MacOS-X Aqua Theme :

Maybe that will be a bit of inspiration.

Let's discuss together what we want. Hopefully one of you guys would want to make it :)

what do you mean? What does xorg features have to do with a theme? In other words, what can be done to a theme that xorg can't already do to the current themes? Maybe that's a silly question, because I don't know....I don't use the extra xorg features. At least, not until the performance greatly improves and I can click a button or 2 to do it.

The features of Xorg you are talking about probably involve the XDamage and XComposite extensions, and actually have nothing to do with theming as we are thinking of it. What you are probably talking about is creating a compositing manager to create special effects as seen in OSX or Sun's Looking Glass. The compositing manager basically gets drawn windows and composites them into the full image you see on your desktop (and since you get each window you can add shadows, distort windows on minimize, etc).

We are thinking of GNOME icon themes, GTK themes, and window manager themes, and you did mention Nuvola, which confuses me a bit. Please explain...

P.S. You might want to take a look at gdesklets (http://gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org/) if you want some nice graphical things to show off.

Sorry I didn't know.

I know I like nuvola. I would like to see something like that.

So is there already a composite manager that uses fancy new x.org features ? Or should we modiify one that suits our new theme ?

gdesklets looks nice

Is there a way to package a composite manager, a theme (like nuvola) and some gkdesklet (like cpu usage or bandwith usage) together ? Or am I saying something very stupid ? (I really don't know much about this sort of stuff)

to be honest, I never like anything about nuvola, well, except i like blue :-P
so I just came up with a little something that people can play with. I didn't complete everything, and I'm not saying I won't if people have ideas, but since I'm not crazy about either aqua or nuvola, I'm not promising any amount of time. Feel free to take it run!

Personally the icons are my least favorite thing about nuvola. they're pretty but they're distracting and gawdy. I do like your theme though bvc, except for the purpleish color. That's the only thing that gets me about it.

when I started I had no purple. It's the purple that I don't like about nuvola. But it just fits when talking 'nuvola' you know? any other bg color seemed 'none-nulova'. Before I started I browsed the icon theme so maybe that's why I see purple in anything 'nuvola'?
