I'm a big fan of CAN. And one of the things I miss the most is their soundtrack for Alice in the cities (http://www.wim-wenders.com/movies/movies_spec/aliceinthecities/aliceinthecities.htm)
it also as chuck berry and canned heat.

for those of you who don't know the band get a hold of them. It's an epiphany. This is true progressive music and not just in the sense of prog rock.
check them at http://www.spoonrecords.com/

Its even worse when you have albums by Hawkwind, Amon Duul, Tangerine Dream, and Spock's Beard.

Ive never heard of such.
I have Can's Cannibalism 1, Future Days, Soundtracks, Monster Movie, Tago Mago, The Peel Sessions CD (rare I understand), Landed, Soon over BabaLuma, and Ege Baymasi.
I wasnt aware that they did a soundtrack for that film.

One of the Great Bands of the 20th Century.
Never get tired of them...

(Yes T.Rex was Marc Bolan's band)

Let's see, of the Can Albums I have:
Soundtracks (CD)
Tago Mago (Repro. Vinyl)
Cannibalism 1 (Original Vinyl)
Ege Bamyasi (CD)
Future Days (CD)
Landed (CD)
Flow Motion (CD)
Radio Waves (CD)
Peel Sessions (CD)
CAN DVD (music only CD)

Amazing stuff, but the truth is that there are a whole lot of bands that kind of fell through the cracks over the years.
Anybody ever hear of Captain Beyond.

Are any of you fans of Faust?

KingBahamut
September 28th, 2005, 08:15 PM
Faust, Hawkind, Stereolab, Kluster, Amon Duul, Van Der Graaf Generator, King Crimson, Magma, Guru Guru, and Caravan.

Out of those, Faust, Kluster, and King Crimson are my favorites. Its largely because of Crimson that Brian Eno got popular, another favorite musician of mine.

Kraut Rock....

I think Neu! , Kluster, and Kraftwerk were the best of those, aside from Can.

Ive got a Kraftwerk album in my collection somewhere.

sure, Faust rocks.

i've got to say jaki liebezeit's collaboration with burnt friedman titled "playing secret rhythms" is one of my all time favorite albums. can fans should also dig czukay and liebezeit's non-can albums.

There's a dude named "Senor Coconut" that plays straight up salsa music, and he's got a whole album of Kraftwerk songs...
It's a trip.:D

I found some of the later stuff by Kluster and Hawkwind unapproachable. I had to listen to it over and over until I could get into it. Never had that problem with Can.

Didn't Jaki have his own band called "The Phantom Band" after Can?
Have you heard any of that?

Senor Coconut is Uwe Schmit's (a.k.a. Atom Heart) orchestra, and Burnt Friedman is in there too. their cover of Showroom Dummies is hilariously good, as well as the video.

He's got some pretty good cover songs on his second album too, including Michael Jackson's "Beat It"....:D

the Full Circle album is probably the best one where Czuhay and Liebezeit got together to do stuff.

What kind of jazz do you like?
I listen to jazz about 95% of the time...

I just bought tickets for the Wayne Shorter Quartet, Oct. 14. :p

I like Wayne Shorter a lot, Eric Dolphy, John Coltrane, Lee Morgan, Sonny Rollins, Freddie Hubbard, Hank Mobley, Joe henderson, Kenny Dorham, Roland Kirk etc. etc. I do listen to more recent stuff too, but the post bebop era is what I listen to most. I used to be a tenor sax player myself (you probably noticed by my favourites list), doing a mixture of well paid sessions for rock groups, and badly or unpaid jazz gigs or jams.

I first saw Wayne Shorter in about 1973 during Weather Report's (with Miroslav Viteous) first gig in the UK. I'll never forget that!

Miles David, Dizzie Gilspie, Wynton Marsalis.....=)

I've been more of a fusion guy really, more than straight up post bop.
Been on a Pat Metheny kick as of late.
I bought Larry Coryell's "Tricycles" album the other day and I can dig that!
What really gets my rocks off though is the Electric Miles stuff...

Live Evil has got to be one of the best live albums EVER, and it has Jack DeJonette on Drums! In A silent way is the bomb too!
