Im sure Many of you already know these tricks, but for those of you who dont I think you'll find this very helpful.

If your like me and Prefer the single taskbar like KDE and Windows have rather than one on top, and one on the bottom like Gnome defaults to you'll be happy to know you can customize Gnome to do this easily. Additionally, rather than having Applications, Places, and System links, you can have 1 main menu which combines all of these.

To find out how view this NewsForge post:

(Tested and working great in the Badger)

That tutorial is funny, by the time that guy is finished he has just about the ugliest desktop I've ever seen:

I tried that the first day that I installed Ubuntu. When all was said and done it was still gnome.

I find the Konsole and the Control Panel preferences a lot better in KDE. I run a variety of GTK applications, of course, but KDE just seems easier to customize...especially with Superkaramba.

I agree with you. It does look just like KDE to me though.

It looks closer to something like CDE than anything else...

Given that he wants the applications menu at the bottom left because that's where it is in Windows, he probably does everything as root to get around those pesky permission problems :)

Whenever I've used GNOME I always put the both of the bars at the bottom of the screen. That way everything I needed was in the same location.
