One of my computers has a weird problem. It doesn't start up at all. All it does is make a fast ticking noise and only stops when I turn it off. It is quite old though about 6-7 years, but I don't want to get rid of it..

I agree, time to crack open the case and start unplugging things until the bios posts.

What do you mean by 'not start up at all'? Does it produce any video signal at all (i.e. does the display on the monitor change at all when the PC is turned on)?

Does it show any messages, sound any beeps or blink any lights before, during or after POST (Power On Self Test)?

What component does the clicking?

Does the button battery cell on the mother board still hold any voltage at all?

The POST doesn't appear, the screen is black.

EDIT: Well it seems to be an on and off kind of thing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.. ??
