NASA has it's own planet viewer that is competeing with the Google Earth I hear everyone on these forums complain about that isn't avalible on Linux. World Wind isn't compatible with Linux either but since it's released under the NASA Open Source Licence v1.3 it could be in theory ported.

Has anyone managed to get it to work? I installed it, but when I try to launch it I get a message about the path to the 'Cache' file, when I click 'OK' to continue it will launch for about 1 split second and then disappear. (Im on Dapper btw).

Did you install it as root? If so, thats why you get the error.

Run the app as root and you be good. Or reinstall as a user.

Im on Feisty and installed Sun Java 5 to make this work. 6 doesnt work.

The installer for WW2D is nice as well. :)

WW is the only program I miss in ubuntu. Google Earth doesn't cut it. I have 120GB WW cache and I cannot use it. :-(

WW2D is old (from v1.3 days). New WW Java is under development and I hope someone makes a decent linux version.

apparently, ww2d isn't nearly as good as WW, because it lacks on features and its 2d anyway. Good to hear that new java WW is being developed.

ps:too bad people fall for that .net ****. whatever useless technology MS comes up with, people just blindly follow it.
