View Full Version : UK Based Web Hosting?

Hi everyone, I've just purchased 2 domains, but I don't know where to buy the hosting for the site, as I bought the domains from www.123-reg.co.uk and don't like their packages, but as far as I'm aware I can just change the DNS settings and IPS tag to my hosting site (I think).

And as the ubuntuforums seem to be the font of all computer knowledge, I thought I'd ask you guys what's the best solution based in the UK.

I've already got my eye on http://www.freevirtualservers.com and http://www.1and1.co.uk, but I don't know what their service/reputation/technical support is like.

I'm not going to do anything drastic on my site so I'm not in desperate need of php of SQL support (but it might be nice for future upgrading) as I'm just going to be hosting a load of files (about 200MB) and a basic site.

Thanks for all the help.

Al

My very basic needs are met by www.streamline.net for £14 a year.

No complaints from me, customer service and tech support is very good.

I was with streamline for year and half, worst hosts ever.

Sliechost.com or GoDaddy.com

Well I was JUST about to sign up for streamline, but then I saw your post crooksey, what was wrong with them? They've just been awarded best dedicated host by The Webhosting Directory as well so they can't be that bad. Here's the press release (http://www.webhosting.info/news/1/streamline.net-awarded-best-dedicated-host_0907073031.htm)

P.S. godaddy.com is US based and from what I can tell slicehost.com is also US based as the prices are in $ although I know this is not gospel truth.
