Is there a list of the packages included in ubuntu (main + restricted + universe) somewhere? I am sorry if this sounds very silly, but I need to point someone to a list, and cannot get my hands onto my desktop at home right now...

I don't know about all the Ubuntu pkgs, but you could always try http://www.apt-get.org .

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/

Not sure how you'd want to parse it, but the contents-arch.gz files have everything you want!

For the sake of someone who might stop by later, I found a list at
http://kitech.com.my/ubuntu/4.10/dpkg.list.

I hope that is a list of packages in main only.

Thanks.

You would be surprised what has the Ubuntu seal of approval in the repositories. You have to be careful, as there are several Ubuntus; Ubuntu 1, 2,3, 25. I would stick with ubuntu 1 for warty 4.10.

So maybe it is time for a page on the wiki, or someplace that lists the official ubuntu packages for the latest release, as well as the impending release.
