The article's statement that the kernel could be nearing "completion" amused me. Unless we can get all hardware vendors to stop shipping new things permanently the kernel can never be "completed" at best it can be "up to date" until something new shows up.

I'm surprised...it's not just the article's statement, but Andrew Morton's too. Maybe he meant 2.6 and was taken out of context and made to look like he was talking about the kernel period?

I would even narrow it down further and guess he meant 2.6.15, but it really wasn't clear without the context.

He had to have meant that 2.6 is complete, which is exciting as that could mean that sometime next year we may see a 2.7 which will yeild a 2.8 eventually.

This is not likely. The stable even / unstable odd -scheme is now in use on release numbers, e.g. 2.6.14 is stable, 2.6.15 is development. In this system the only reason to go to 2.7 is a change so big that there will be really major breakage.
