Gnomes are one of the humanoid races (http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Race). Gnomes were the oldest sentient race on the Continent (http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Continent) and together with dwarves (http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Dwarves) and elves (http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Elves) are called the Old Races (http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Old_Races). Gnomes are shorter and weaker than dwarves, but just as tough and more agile. They can be easily distinguished from dwarves and halflings (http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Halfling) by their long noses.
Many gnomes live in Mahakam (http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Mahakam) along with the dwarves, although others inhabit the Tir Tochair (http://witcher.wikia.com/index.php?title=Tir_Tochair&action=edit) mountain range. They are excellent smiths and metallurgists and their gwyhyr (http://witcher.wikia.com/index.php?title=Gwyhyr&action=edit) swords (http://witcher.wikia.com/index.php?title=Sword&action=edit) are considered the best in the world.
