View Full Version : Newbie with Mail Servers

I work in PHP development and I need to bring up a quick and easy mail server so that I can test the PHP code for sending mail and then use Thunderbird to open the mailbox to view it. I already have a web hosting provider for my client in the UK (and a slow connection there, unfortunately) that has mail there, but it takes too long to test against that, repeatedly, for several minutes.

What's the fastest, easiest, painless way to install a simple local POP/SMTP connection on Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn?

I looked at Postfix and Courier and followed a doc on the web for Feisty, but darn if it didn't work -- I couldn't send or receive email. So, I used 'apt-get --purge' to remove the items so that I can start fresh again.

Must get help. Gasping for air.
