When a distribution becomes popular, much of the public information can become clouded with half-information, mis-information, half-truths, etc. And many of the people that come across this inaccurate information do not know that it's not correct. Sometimes, this information can appear damning.
Many people feel very passionately when they read these pieces of information - and will react accordingly.
Please remember that it's because they may not know the whole truth that they're so upset. If you can, try to give the correct information.
Also, any kind of thread where a comparison is asked for, will very likely be delving into personal opinions. Personal opinions are the heart of our passions, so to speak, so naturally, any thread involving what you think is the best can get very heated. Please remember that when someone asks what is "better," that the best answer can be one where you explain that it's a personal choice, but that my choice is X for Y reasons.
