I was messing round with a laser engraver today and this is what i came up with:

http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1125/pic0003da9.th.jpg (http://img231.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pic0003da9.jpg) http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/6669/pic0002wt1.th.jpg (http://img231.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pic0002wt1.jpg) http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/8701/pic0001fn7.th.jpg (http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pic0001fn7.jpg)

This was just a test. As you can see i kinda screwed up with the varnish. The wood quality wasn't very good either. The coaster is a 10 cm (like 4 inch) circle.

I'm hoping to make a better one soon, also mess around with other images, like distribution logos etc. Please tell me what you think. If the feedback is good enough i could try "selling" them for the lowest price possible.

See everyone around!

(yeah, i know the pictures suck, the coaster actually looks darker and less grainy. Ill post some more of when it was getting engraved later today)

You got me thinking so I had to share...

coaster

1. Unuseable CD produced during failed attempt at writing to writeable or re-writeable CD media. Certainly related to the coaster-like shape of a CD, and the relative value of these failures. “I made a lot of coasters before I got a good CD.”

2. Useless CDs received in the mail from the likes of AOL, MSN, CI$, Prodigy, ad nauseam.

3. A small piece of material, usually composed of wood or of cardboard, used to prevent a drink and its container from contacting a surface, such as a table, and leaving marks from drips or condensation.

Thats actually trickier, its not easy to engrave metal. I have some sprays to use on metal actually, but they are rather expensive, and i cant cut it with a laser.

They can in the movies.

I like the wood ones a lot. If they came in a set, I'd get some.

you could paint them and then engrave. Could it do that?
