Hi there.

I'm looking to create a small, private forum. We currently use phpbb2 and frankly it's time for a change.

The forums must be:

- Free
- Customizable
- Have plugin support (preferably)
- Look sweet ;)

The ability to import an existing phpbb database would be an advantage, but isn't really too much of an issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions - or an in depth php tutotrial I could follow to make my own?

Thanks in advance :)

By the by, how come ubuntuforums.org uses vBulletin - where's the open source?!

Read the FAQ.
I'm not sure what open-source forum software is good these days, did you try the new phpbb3?
Oh I forgot! SMF is very good. http://www.simplemachines.org/

Sorry - I should have mentioned that we don't want to stay with phpbb any more :(

And which FAQ are you talking about? There's lots of them :P
