View Full Version : Creating some Ubutnu videos

January 19th, 2008, 10:05 PM

I'm planning on making some videos to demonstrate some of the best features in Ubuntu 8.04 (go to Apple.com (http://apple.com/macosx/guidedtour) to get an idea of what I'm making), and I was wondering what you guys think the killer features of Ubuntu are.

I'm trying to aim the videos at people who have only just learned about Ubuntu, not so much at experts.

My list of features so far is

how easy it is to install (LiveCD)
Beautiful user interface (3D graphics, gnome theme, etc)

any ideas?

Seriously though, how about talking about the epic repositories... can't go wrong with those.

I suggest you have a skim through the beginners section. As you know, the same problems do come up again and again. Make a kist from there and I guess you can really go too far wrong.

Is that the video with that steve jobs lookalike?

If you do that, don't use such an boring dude (grey, black shirt and I believe a pair of those "trendy" glasses). Someone young, maybe even an attractive girl is always better. (if it's not that video, the hot girl idea still counts)

- It's free (burn it or order it)
- The ease in wich you can download/install software with, and the size of the repositories.
- the gtk themes
- some plugins like expo, wall, rotating desktop that increase speed and usabity
- those plugins lead to -> multiple desktops
- the easy to use/understand 'applications' menu
- easy remote desktop
- mentioning no viruses and spyware is good ideo
- gedit as notepad replacement and html/css/... editor
- maybe mention things like avant windows navigator (awn dock)
- great and fast responding forum
- screenlets
- easy updating of the system and software
- no hard disk defragging needed
- saying that it's available in most languages
- lot's of games (not for the hardcore games (expect a few older games) but lots of nice little fun games
- build in torrent support
- build in email client
- build in bluetooth support
- istalls most nvidea and ati drivers in restriced drivers managment
- easy to download and install audio/video drivers
- saying you can change/copy/distribute everything
- improved printing support in gutsy
- maybe saying that linux has adobe's flash player and sun's java available
- stable, long uptime, fast, runs on older systems
- new release cycle every 6 months (not having to wait years for new functions like apple or microsoft
- ...
