I had posted about them (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=646043) a while ago.

Never mind. It works. Apparently the Acroread plugin only loads after a certain amount of the file has been downloaded. And the file is rather large and it was downloading a bit slow so it just took a little longer than I was expecting. It looks very interesting. I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow. :)

I tried to download it, after a long time I got the manual on screen (398 pages .pdf). I couldn't find how to save it. Apparently Firefox now reads .pdf's without Acrobat Reader or Evince.

Personally, I use Rickford Grant's "Unbuntu for Non-Geeks" second edition (v7.04), from Amazon @ £14.99. Add some cheap item to the order to get free postage. I don't think the third edition is out yet.
