I have been using private phone www.privatephone.com/ for the past year as a voicemail box for a non-profit youth sports organization I volunteer for.
It was a great help because we could use it for a hotline for things like rain-outs or changes.
We also used it as a voicemail box to keep one person's phone from ringing off the wall.
The service allowed a few of us to take turns checking the mailbox for messages ( which we could listen to via phone or pc ) and return calls.

Is there any other service out there that would work.
I need it to provide a local number.
Would skype do this for me possibly ?

Im pretty sure skype features a full suite for that type of thing, check their website for full details. If you get a skype phone you dont even need to switch your pc on to use it.

Thanks, I really wouldn't need or want the skype phone.
The whole idea that most of the people that call will just get current info they need to know and won't leave a message.
If they do leave a message ( typically one or two a day ) then there will be a few people checking for messages that will be able to return them.

My organization uses a voice mail service and it works pretty well. We don't have staff to always answer calls so we chose the voicemail route. We use 101voicemail (http://101voicemail.com) as our provider and it's been great. It's cheap and has a flat rate for unlimited usage. You can save as many messages and custom greetings through an online control panel. You don't have to settle for a local number because they give toll free numbers free. Take a look at http://101voicemail.com

I totally forgot about this thread.
I am currently using ( and have been using since February ) grandcentral www.grandcentral.com
The service has been great and it is free.
