I'm not gonna give the common answer on to what distro you should use, cause... like... duh... :lolflag:

but i came across this distro, which they said is tailored for internet cafe

zencafe

I'd still go for Ubuntu. My cafe is now running partially with it (had to keep one xp pc since my printer is not Linux ready). The advantage of Ubuntu is the abundance of software in its repositories and .deb packages. With other distros you may still have to compile several applications like gyachi (kailangan dahil YM-crazy mga kababayan natin) and Xara LX.

If you offer gaming, I suggest you install wine-doors, a program which automates the installation of several non-native apps like Office 2003(why would anyone install this?), DOTA, WOW, Call of Duty 2, etc. etc.

So far okay naman ang Ubuntu. I don't offer gaming (too many kids spending too much time playing instead of reading) so you may have a totally different situation.

Anybody here able to run Outkaffe?

@ragadanga63: medyo OT, but how is busisness with no gaming? paang lahat kasi ng shops na nakikita ko e puro gaming ang bread-and-butter

Is there a legal issue in using the word "Linux" in your business name? (Linux Cafe, Cafe Linux, et)

The name is very general... the name LINUX is public. Try NAME's LINUX CAFE to be safe.

Mga Sir salamat po sa mga mungkahi.. about po dun sa shop.. ibang trend po ng shop gusto namin itayo.. internet shop lang talaga sya at ang target namin hindi mga bata na mahilig mag games yung tipong sisirain keyboard sa games.. target po namin is teachers, students who is not used to research in a noisy ambience of computer shops.. siguro matagal ang process nito pero sana magwork out..:)

Copyright and trademarks, mostly.

For safety, not that Torvalds is going to go after some linux cafe`, I would do just : Internet Cafe.

Same lang pala biz natin. Ito lang tips ko sa iyo:

1. Location is everything.

2. Yahoo Messenger is the "killer app". Nahirapan akong ibenta ang Gyachi dahil karamihan sa mga clients don't care to learn new UI's. At since marami sa mga customers ko ay mga kapamilya ng OFW's, you'll need voice and video chat. They'll need all the assistance they can get with Gyachi. Somehow, may ilan din akong suki na di na bumalik since I converted to Ubuntu. Kaya kailangan mong ingatan ang mga clients mo especially those YM addicts.

3. You mentioned Xerox. Gawin mong 2. Ang isa ay yong powder, preferably laser copier/printer at A3 capable, with reducer and enlarger. It's expensive pero madaling mabawi ang capital mo dito( I started with one now I have 4). With refurbs using refill toners, you can lower your price to as low as .50 centavos per copy. Refurbished copiers break down more often than new ones.

More next time. Nagugutum na ako...hehehe.

Good luck sa negosyo mo.

Sayang yung internet shop pag linux gamit nyo, di tatagal yun.

maybe its just me, but i also don't see the point of deploying ubuntu in vmware sa inet cafe that has windows already, primarily because its a resource hog sa pc. might as well just deploy windows securely with FOSS software on top of it.

well too bad, unless you could suggest a new icafe distro there isn't any relevance on reviving this thread.

thread close.
