Which Smart Phone/pda shall I buy from ebay? I have a Web nWalk Contract with T-Mobile but got there USB Modem on contract instead of a phone/PDA.

Here are the ones I am considering which would be most compatible with Ubuntu. I don't seem to have anychoice but Windows Mobile.

I am definitely going to buy one tomorrow when I get paid.

I would avoid the palm, because I like to be able to copy stuff to and from my phone. I've got a Treo 755p at work, and it's not easy enough for me to care about making it work.

Maybe others have had different experience.

My Nokia 5500 Sport (not a smartphone form factor, but with smartphone software) works well as a data transfer thing, because when you plug it in, it offers you a 'Data Transfer' mode, which makes the phone a mass storage controller. The 5500 isn't supported by the gnokii (or whatever it's called) project, though, so syncing is out.

The openmoko neo1973, a linux-based smartphone, will be out in the next month or so, from what I gather, and it looks pretty damn cool. And will probably have a ton of community hacks for it pretty damn quickly.

Others, I'm sure, will have much more to say about it. Good luck. :-)
