I am still a newbie to linux and I have a few games I will like to put on it. Ut2004, Doom 3, FarCry, etc.

I was wonderng if I need any type of special program to do so. If I do what is it called, and where can I download it? Also is it hard to use?

Hi! You can play all the games that you listed. To play them you need Cedega, which is available in two version. One that cost money and have some extra stuff, and a free cvs version. Look at this thread for help and more info:

Some Games are already Available for Linux, such as:

Quake 3: Download the Linux patch here (http://files.filefront.com/SEARCH/;2621770;;/fileinfo.html) and copy pak0.pk3 to the base directory of where you installed the Quake patch.

UT2004/2003: The Linux installation is on the last CD.

Doom 3: Linux Binary: http://files.filefront.com/SEARCH/;3750938;;/fileinfo.html.

UT: Install the Full Patch (http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/unrealtourn/ut-install-436.run.html) with the original CD in the Drive.

Enemy Territory: Download it here http://files.filefront.com/SEARCH/;1063789;;/fileinfo.html.

Tribes 2: You will probably find someone on ebay selling it...

Several Linux gaming sites: Linux Games (http://www.linuxgames.com), Tux Games (http://www.tuxgames.com/), Happy Penguin (http://www.happypenguin.org/)

For all the other games not available for linux, you can play them with Cedega.

You used to be able to download Tribes 2 for free off
Fileplanet (http://www.fileplanet.com/files/140000/140247.shtml) but for some reason they closed the download. I could never get it to play online because you needed the CD key and they didn't tell you where to find it...

i got it(win version) off a computer gaming world dvd. bummer about the key, then again the dvd wanted you to get it off the fileplanet site as well. i am not sure why they suspended downloads of the game. maybe because tribes vengance is released and it didnt do that amazing sales wise.

It's linux_installer.sh and it's also on Disc 1 on UT2004 (but only on the last disc for 2003).

Be sure you have your 3D drivers working before attempting to play!

Tribes 2 (http://tribes2.notlong.com)

Starsiege: Tribes (http://stribes.notlong.com)

Also, about the cd keys, they're not that hard to get. If anyone really wants one, I'll gladly get a key for you (yes, they're legit). :)

And if it says this..

Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Package nvidia-glx is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package nvidia-glx has no installation candidate

Did you update APT? If not, Type this in the console:

apt-get update

And hopefully you will be able to install it.

Is your universe enabled?
Like i said before im new to linux, so how the heck do i do that.

@Quake - Yeah did that, still gives me an error in the terminal.

Altho I noticed when I was isntalling it gave me an error about x server I think.

I just reinstalled ubuntu with no errors. Everything is in okay... I am just going to buy cedega if this still continues not to work.

I recently acquired the LokiGame's Tribes 2 CD via eMule (LokiGames died a few years back, and I legally own a copy of the Windows version, not to mention that Vivendi Universal released this game for free a while back). It runs AMAZINGLY. However, I cannot patch it, whether it uses the LokiUpdate tool, or via the .run files I have downloaded on my own. I get this error everytime:

./update.sh: line 60: 8774 Segmentation fault loki_patch --verify patch.dat
The program returned an error code (1)
when I run tribes2-25034-x86.run

and I get:

./update.sh: line 60: 9342 Segmentation fault loki_patch --verify patch.dat
The program returned an error code (1)

when I run tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.run.

The cdrom .run file is roughly 30mb larger than the other one, but I notice no real differences, especially when they both give me segmentation faults...

Any ideas?

Alright, I finally got the game patched... but there is no sound. There wasn't sound before the patch, but now it doesn't even display a sound driver in Tribes 2! I would love to be able to get sound working... Any ideas?
