So I recently went on a trip with my roommate to petsmart yesterday and was browsing the fish section and saw what are called Dragon Fish (Gobiodes broussonetti)

Has anyone had any experience with these guys (or fish tanks in general)? I know they get to be around 18'' but I'd love to raise one in a tank just for bragging rights mostly, I mean they're definitely an odd sight to see.

Thoughts?

Oh no...pets are a big commitment, haha. I have been putting off buying a dog with my gf for three years now. I guess a fish isn't quite as bad

if you get one of those auto(feed/clean) tanks you can have the fish even when your "fish" phase passes.

That's a cool fish, but it doesn't sound like a very good starter fish. Anything in brackish or salt water is going to be a lot harder to maintain than fresh water. And it sounds like it needs a big tank, specific food, and constant changing of water.

I'd start out with a good 10 gallon freshwater tank kit. With a charcoal filter and heater included. Then choose just a few interesting easy to care for fish. Here is some good choices:

It's possible I found the wrong fish online when I searched. The one in the petstore was a freshwater community fish, but that doesn't mean it's not still hard to care for

I actually own a dragonfish. It lives in a 30 gal tank along with 3 sharks. It is a freshwater fish and I feed it tropical fish flakes.:)
