im looking for a decent minimalist gtk2 theme. doesn't matter what color as long as it looks nice, the buttons are small, and its not a vista or mac clone.(ive been searching gnome-look all day, there is NOTHING good.)
could anyone help a brother out? :)
(windows borders are fine too)

Found this (http://www.xfce-look.org/content/show.php/Clearlooks-compact?content=59138) over on xfce-look. I used it for a while (on Xubuntu), it looks nice. Should work fine on regular Ubuntu right?

might be posted in the wrong place but i found ice-orange at gnome-look and it is very cool. I hav eused it still for my gtk theme in openbox. If you cant find a good gnome theme you could try install a new Desktop envirment and what not.

i was thinking about fluxbox, as enlightenment is still too immature for my uses. i just don't know where to begin with it...(fluxbox)

well there is a good guide for fluxbox and openbox but there is tons of desktop envirments out there. Here is urukamas guide for openbox which is what i used when i start using open box Link (http://urukrama.wordpress.com/openbox-guide/)

the nova themes are very clean. the scroll bar, for example, is a simple, trim black line.

I really like ATER, I've had it for quite a while now.

You'll get the same problem in Fluxbox, as Gtk apps always use Gtk themes, even in Fluxbox and Openbox.
Tastes differ, so it is hard to suggest something you'd like, but if you like compact, try Nova, Clearlooks Compact, or MurrinaElf.
If you have a theme you like (colour-wise), you can always make it more compact by adjusting the x and y settings in the gtkrc theme file. The smaller they are, the compacter your theme will be.

I've been wanting to give Enlightenment a spin... How stable is it? What are the minimum/recommended system requirements?

Good call! Was just about to suggest them. I use that as my GTK and have the Nova Orange as my openbox border/menu theme.
