Cheap webcam that works perfecty on gutsy

Video call is one of the thing that give me a hard time. I have a Logitech Quickcam Orbit/Sphere which doesn't work so well on Gutsy.

I am thinking of buying a cheap webcam for gutsy (for the love of not installing windows) that would work perfectly on skype, kopete and/or gyachi. What webcam can you recommend? :D

i bought a webcam off ebay for about £6.. I didnt have Linux in mind when I bought it, but it was detected immediately and automatically by Feisty (and most likely gutsy).. moreover, i was a nightmare to install on windows!

It was unfortunately unbranded, but after a bit of searching i discovered that the chipset was a Vimicro 0301PLH

sorry its not much help lol but unfortunatley in Linux its down to the actual chipset inside rather than make/model (and the chipset is difficult to identify without actually plugging it into a machine)

It isn't a separate webcam, but much to my amazement the webcam in my HP tx1000z tablet PC worked immediately in gutsy. This was unlike the rest of the hardware on this...

I have an : Creative Technology, Ltd WebCam NX Ultra. It works perfectly out of the box, even video calls work nicely!

I have a Logitech QuickCam, I don't remember exactly which variant, I think the QuickCam Chat (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/webcam_communications/webcams/devices/3781). All the QuickCam variants use the same hardware as far as I know, the difference is in the software that you get with it (which is useless for Linux anyway) and with some models you get a headphone.

The QuickCam works without any problems on Gutsy. I'm using it with Skype 2.0 Beta.

Before this one, I had a Microsoft VX-3000, and there was no way to get it working properly. Don't get a Microsoft webcam.

Logitech QuickCam Zoom. Works fine in Gutsy 32 and 64-bit.

Amusing off-topic fact - Logitech does not supply any Vista drivers for my particular webcam (along with most of their older cameras). They recommend I purchase something newer, despite this being a perfectly functional camera. My solution for Vista? Use the XP drivers instead. They worked beautifully, plus I stuck it to Logitech for being such pricks. :)

This one looks EXACTLY like the cheapo one i got from ebay.. i know that doesnt mean its the same electronics inside but its a start.. good pic quality too for something so cheap
