Hi

Decided to check out the forums and noticed its very quiet in here. Am I missing something or do I need a secret handshake. Normally Linux forums are buzzing. I joined the facebook thingy as well.

I've been using Ubuntu on and off for about a year now. Have started to ditch my windows xp partition. I'm not an expert in Linux by any means but am interested in getting involved.
My backround in computing is the dark side ( MCSE) :) and eight year's of battling with ms server os's. So go easy on me ok.

I get the Ubuntu community ethos and think it would be cool to contribute but I'm not sure where to start. I can't program.

Offski to get ready to ring in the new year. Have a Great New Year

Sean

My God,some responses. Good to see that. I've been persuading (not nagging) some people(work colleagues ) to give Ubuntu a go.On the basis that nearly everything worked out of the box so to speak on the IBM think pad t42 and my home brew PC . I actually more surprised that my home brew pc worked as its a bit of a mish mash of components. Although I have to thank Mr John Toomey for his excellent Ubuntu advocacy in persuading me to give it ago in the first place.

At home I've been using kino to capture edit and render some home videos. That was a bit of a challenge but learned quite a bit about how firewire talks to the os and devices as files. Getting the cam corder to talk over firewire was the main challenge. However the editor is lot easier to use once it gets up and running. Unlike pinnacle or ulead it didn't bomb out halfway through rendering. I was looking at adobe premiere but its a bit costly for something I only would use three/four times a year.

Ok, so i've been test driving ubuntu on the lenovo t61, so I've been off this forum for a while and reinstalling everything and its dog. Once I get the wireless working I'll be happy. Apart from that its rocks.

Hey spmccann another good video program is MANDVD.
Have a look at it... Real easy for compiling videos onto dvd.
