Thanks. It is pure black when the menu is not there.

On an overhead projector (I had my laptop for my presentation in school), on a white board, it looks like the cursor is actually on the board.

oh, it's great. i reinstalled xubuntu the other day and i just got around to dumping all that usplash gdm stuff and now, with those same things running in my screenshot and three instances of streamripper running in the console, i'm still using less than 100mb of ram (of course, i have a gig, so i guess it's kind of retarded to get that carried away by being so frugal). you must try it, nathan.

well I do like fluxbox. But I'll make sure to install it sometime. With a memory usage of less then 100MB with all those apps open, that's just impressive.

the promise of speed lured me to linux in the first place. being an end user, it took me a while to get used to terminal apps. nano was the first one to hook me and then mpd+ncmpc really hit me like that one special love of a lifetime. i think it's a fine plan you have there.

Absolutely. I hoped to achieve the best of both worlds. Mac OSX icons/dock, an Aero-style appearance, and of course the functionality / ability to customize using Linux! Not to mention the great suit of effects compiz-fuzion brings to the desktop! :guitar:

Freewins++ (Take a look on the Compiz forums (http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=6358)
An experimental plugin that allows you to freely rotate and resize windows.
Currently, it's more of an eye-candy thing that a functional tool, but as soon as input redirection is added to the X server, I predict that it will surpass the Cube in fame.
Specifically, I'm rotating them to a specific amount on one axis and then resizing them so that they're really small and then I just throw them in a nice "stack" in the corner.

Can't wait for input redirection...

edit: I went and made a new keybinding (http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=6375) that will automatically shelf-size a window, so it can be easily dragged into the stack. This officially makes the Shelf plugin redundant. Hopefully someone will be nice and add my modifications to Git for me as I don't know how nor do I have the attention span to learn at this time of night.

That is so freaking cool! I've tried out looking glass and metisse before and didn't like them but have always been hoping for aplugin that could due that to windows! I seriously can't wait for this i would use it so often.

It's AWN. i have the taskbar enabled, but since i have the terminal and appearance manager open and they have launchers they just have an arrow under them. here's my setup if it helps.

The script was checking for window managers and didn't find anything that it recognized -- openbox was one of the possibilities it tried but didn't find. Anyways, I've fixed the script so it recognizes awesome and updated the screenshot -- have a look now, everything should be reported properly.

Sorry -- just back from a new years party so my screenshot taking skills were/are somewhat diminished ;)

Excellent. Now...can I get that script? :lolflag:

Attached... Not sure if it's going to work on ubuntu, but I can't see why not -- as long as you're able to run perl code... You will need to get some nice ascii art with ubuntu logo to replace the Arch logo - I think the script can also do Debian logo, but I've never tried...

If you do ever make changes to the script so that it works well with Ubuntu I think it'd be nice to post the updated version of the script in this thread (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=24208). I'm not the original creator of the script - the credits should go to rab (see the link for more info).

Where did you get those icons? (Not the folder, the other icons: HD, firefox...) And how did you get those beautiful icons with pictures inside them?

Most of the Icon come from deviantArt:
Firefox:
http://kdewolf.deviantart.com/art/Browsers-Compass-Icon-Pack-UD-62491576

Hard drive:
I don't remember, send me a message, i send you by mail.
But I found these one very similar:
http://jamisonx.deviantart.com/art/Another-Drive-Pack-68318886

The folder with picture came from here: (Icon by smoovie in the icon release tread).

The Pekwm theme uses some elements from lyrae's Sandwich (http://box-look.org/content/show.php/Sandwich?content=72821) theme. I still have to find a better font for it, though.

Here's mine
I can't decide which wallpaper I like more, I keep switching between them.
GTK theme is Divinorum Orange
Icon theme is Black-White 2 Vista
Emerald theme is Radial, but I customized it a bit to make the borders thinner.

I'm still trying to find a window border theme (Metacity or Emerald) that I really like. Could anyone recommend any that would go with my dark theme?

I'm working on a "True 3d" plugin for Compiz. It'll use headtracking with a Wiimote to turn your screen into a true 3d viewport a la Johnny Chung Lee (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/). Thought I'd post what my desktop will be looking like for the next few weeks.

Good for show, but that cube made me feel kinda sick (maybe it was just the odd lines)... Controlling my Compiz cube with a Wiimote would be pretty fun though.

Also, thanks for the wiimote link, I am definitely going to try that.

That is freaking sweet man. You wuold just need the remote and an infrared head hting like he had? If u made that a compiz fusion plugin it wuold be freaking amazing.

It's been done with a wiimote and a few candles. It "works" with the existing cube but it's kind of weird. Basically you'd just use the wiimote like a mouse, you'd click with button and all that.

It used to, but latest versions omit it for some crazy reason. I grabbed it (it's just one file) out of an older version and put it in ~/.fluxbox/styles (then modified it).

Here's to America and the election year.

Here's to America where we are free to make choices as long as they are not hurt anybody wheather through intent or ignorance. Here's to America that we don't have to worry of being tortured for our beliefs. Here's to a New Year, and our natural... drifting to fanaticism and absolute-ism.

I'm getting away from national politics and I'm involved in local politics now. I went to the local forums here where someone was booted for trying to stop torture. I'm in a new place and the people are getting to know me. I'm getting to know them and so far I am feel positive about the experience. The scary thing is, they have control over how well I do. If they don't like what I say, or do they can hurt me. Even if someone else speaks poorly, it can hurt me. I'm sure if they could, they'd put a device in my house that could hurt me if I speak poorly.

Here's my weekly.

PM me for details.

I'm experimenting with a darker setup. Not sure how long this will last...

Openbox 3.4 with a modified Fear Openbox theme and a modified Royalty Gtk theme. Icons are GnomeCorsair (modified to inheret Tango instead of Gnome). Fonts are Arial Rounded MT Bold. The wallpaper is made from images of abandoned buildings, found on this (http://www.abandoned-places.com/) site (there is some great photography there).

I'm a dark theme guy myself, and that is slick as hell urukrama!! I can't find gnomecorsair on gnome-look, apparently removed as I followed a direct link via google and search on gnomelook gets nothing. Can you attach/link ?

MAJOR CHANGE!!

Dumped KDEmod for XFCE. I grew tired of no good KDE styles, so I decided to come back to GTK, and of course, the best DE there is: XFCE :)

blazing fast!

it's still a work in progress. I don't really like the wall, but I decided to post anyway

Thank you, herbster. I don't remember where I got the icons from, though. I've had them for a long time. If I can't trace them, I'll send them to you. I've also sent you a pm.

what i like most about that screenshot is the firefox theme. I've always had the problem in wmii, that most gtk applications stick out like a sore thumb in what is supposed to be a minimalistic environment. but that firefox theme makes it look like it fits; the same way minimalistic xorg applications like xclock fit perfectly fine in wmii.

Thanks for the compliment! The font is from the "funfonts" pack that I found here: gnome-look.org (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Fun+Fonts?content=37782) I have attached a screenshot of the font that I used ("IrishJig").

Not real sure about this, so I'm mainly post it to see if anyone had any suggestions. The main difficulty was getting Conky to be visible without being garish. In it's present state, it seems to be sort of a compromise between the two.

Thoughts and/or RGB codes are welcome. ;)

EDIT: New shot, fixing the Conky rendering delay.

EDIT part deux: New shots, in response to comments.

I like the look you have achieved , ..nice..

I see that the Conky display seems a little hard to read (maybe it is clearer on your screen than it is in the SS?)

All I can suggest regarding the Conky On Screen Display, is to change the color of the txt to maybe ..grey? or somthing like that?.
Using Gimp to pick a colour that matches your Desktop is what I would suggest (< I assume you know what I mean by this?) i.e: Use the "Color Picker" in Gimp to get a Color Code #xxxxx from your "desktop background" then apply it in your .conkyrc File

Thanks for the responses, guys. I decided I needed to change the Conky font, first, and have now replaced the old ss with two (one with the old color, the other with the dark grey you both suggested). I'll continue to tweak it, though -- transparency's tough.

Btw, I've been using Agave, a standalone color-wheel/color-matching app -- much lighter than loading than GIMP just for the color wheel. ;)

Yes, but that would be washed out by the light-blue-tending-to-greyish wallpaper.

That's the problem with the kind of question I asked, of course: the brightness/contrast/gamma on our respective monitors makes it impossible for us to see the same thing. :)

Both use the Royalty Gtk theme, GnomeCorsair icons, and Arial Rounded MT Bold fonts.

http://xs323.xs.to/xs323/08010/pawm.jpg.xs.jpg (http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs323&d=08010&f=pawm.jpg)

It's mildly interesting. If you like desktop icons and a taskbar it might be worth investigating. For some reason it didn't really grab me. But what you see there is more or less the default. Running Arch; pawm is in community (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?do_Details=1&ID=5354&O=0&L=0&C=0&K=pawm&SB=n&SO=a&PP=25&do_MyPackages=0&do_Orphans=0&SeB=nd) if you want to try it.

Going back to Openbox now. :D
