kde4?
KDE3. There isn't a lot of hard core customization happening here though. Just a simple kicker background (with a touch of transparency for docks) along with some color choices for style and windec. Have to admit though that there was some KDE4 inspiration/hopes going on here. :-)

Yeah I realized it after I posted, because of the panel. It seemed KDE4 because of dolphin

Nothing THAT new but felt new enough to post.
-Firefox 3 beta 2 (which works amazingly and I love the GTK support and native widgets ;))
-Conky
-Thunar

The only thing left really is to format is the weather script. However, I have little to no knowledge of XSL so if anybody knows how to bind text to a table, please share. :)

Oh, and yes, I am scared of stalkers so I cover my email. ;)

Indeed, new firefox [ or swiftfox3.0b3 in my case ] rocks! :guitar: It's faster, it does support gtk styles and there's no need to use custom widgets anymore..

Welp, here's January's attempt. Will pobably change it within the week like I constantly do.

Theme: Darker Theme with Elegance as the control from gnome-look.org

Wallpaper: Forgot the name, got it from Interfacelift.org

Icons: Kamel

AWN with colorless-black-border theme

Quickblack Emerald theme

Cairo Clock with SimpleClock theme

*image*

I agree - I change my whole system at least once every week, usually twice or 3 times....
New background, new panels, once a month new panel arrangement usually... new emerald, new GTK, new icons... you get the point :D

I even have a script that changes my background automatically if I want :p

Well, already posted a January Desktop (although it was still December 31). So, I am using that as an excuse an posting a new one. I soooooo absolutely love this one, I HAD to publish it.

The GTK is: Blue-Junior0.9.4
The Metacity is: Zune
The icons are: black-white 2 gloss
The perfect cursor theme to go with this, although the snapshot doesn't show it, is ComixCursors-Black-Small-Slim.
(all available on gnome-look.org)
And, as always, my image is from caedes.net -- I have NEVER seen any other website with such cool images! It's always so difficult for me to select which one I should use as background...

How do you shade windows with Metacity?

Tiede
January 7th, 2008, 05:48 AM
Go to System -> Preferences -> Window
and change the titlebar action setting to shade.
(Or if you like to have double-clicking the titlebar maximize your windows, open-up gconf editor, go to apps -> metactiy -> window_keybindings and create your own keybinding for it :) )
You will come to find that metacity has a lot of backdoor options that can be pretty cool... If only they had a nice GUI settings app... Hihi

just change the path to your pictures (default to your home "Pictures" folder) and maybe also change the time between switches (default to 2 hours (7200 seconds))

I like dark desktops as well. Lighter colors (especially white) are painful on my 22" monitor. I keep my monitor's brightness turned down to zero, and light colors still hurt. A nice dark wallpaper and a subdued theme are just right.

And of course, an Audrey Tatou gallery makes it quite nice as well.

I am using the mac4lin theme for the moment. I really like it alot. Then only thing i need to fix is changing the apple logo to the ubuntu logo. All in good time.

The wallpaper is from gnome art.

Heh, thanks. My shots don't seem to vary much, I flip back and forth between 2 different emerald themes and modify the colour scheme I use to match... So i don't post new screens too often.

And I'm actually kind of with you on the background.. I had just become pretty sick of the one I was using previously and this one's holding its place until i find something stunning.

Hi, what's your Gtk theme?

I'm guessing it's a variant on the Murrina engines... I use Murrina Deviant, which also works well with that metacity theme.

probably a good idea :p

yeah, actually I also think that theres a limit to what It can pick randomly... 32767 if I remember...

Yes. The RANDOM bash built-in is limited to 32k. I wrote a tiny C program to generate my numbers. I think that I even posted the code here somewhere. Although it may have been on the Gentoo forums. I'll have to search.

Edit: Found it here http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=4061021&postcount=31

The Bahamut from X was one of the most visually stunning, but I have such a special attachment to the one from VIII. VIII was my favorite game. So it's really hard to choose. But I'd say that the one from X would probably make a more attractive wallpaper.

Not all that too much different from the default layout wise. The most changes I really did was add one-click access to the panels to what I use the most (I hate having desktop icons since most of the time I never actually see the desktop area). So there's my list of most commonly used applications, along with easy access to my master and headphone volume, the gnome control center and appearance settings, and of course weather.

KDE with built in transparency, gnome-terminal (because the transparency works properly!), GKrellm with a groovy theme, Cairo clock, and background from the Half-Life2 demo thing "the lost coast" (ask if you want it).

And of course good old Amarok :).

Note the slight transparency on the menu panel and also in GKrellm.

konsole has real transparency too, in case you care.

@nikef. I'm with you. That is a NICE image. I bet it came from Deviant Art, but a link would be nice.

This one goes out to all the Trekkies in the audience!

Compiz Snow, Star Trek Theme. (http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=55894&stc=1&d=1199932987)

The wallpaper is "The Passage", by casperium. (http://casperium.deviantart.com/art/The-Passage-70183212)

It looks much better on video, than in a still image. All those ships, those actually move, thanks to the Compiz-Fusion Snow plugin

Edit: And, because I haven't done so before now. My favorite screenshot, Kubuntu Fire & Ice. (http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=55895&stc=1&d=1199933338).

I'm trying to get my amarok to match my GTK and since I've never ventured into KDE territory, can someone break it down real basic style for me how the configuring of it works? What are Domino, Baghira, etc.? I think they are "Styles" and then there are "themes"?

Domino and baghira are really like theme engines, or i guess style engines. And then you donload config files for them to change the colors/settings. Sort of like a murrine theme and the murrine theme engine. Styles like domino change mainly like ur buttons and stuff liek that, or that's what i've seen so far. Color scheme are what change the main face of your programs, they also follow the sort of "theme" ur style and style config have set up. I think that's right, but i dunno lol. If im wrong someone correct me.

Gigamo and Opeth, you're really giving me some hopes about KDE here. I've always thought that it's looked more or less like crap, but your desktops look pretty good. What version of KDE is that? I'm thinking about switching over sometime after the release of KDE4.

If so just select domino as your style in the control center, and then go to configure. once there click load/save and import that config. then load it up. Glad you like it so far =) but it's jsut a mod, i don't know hot to make my own themes. I really wanna start though does anybody have any great guides on making domino styles, emerald themes, gtk themes, any of that?

In thunar you can change emblems by right clicking and selecting "properties--> emblems". Not sure if that's what you want...

well emblems are little stamps on the icon, the the folder icon is the picture of the folder, so they are not interchangeable, but to change the folder icon, go in properties, click the current icon in the window, and pick a new image to use as the icon

That specific method works with Nautilus, for instance. Thunar doesn't seem to offer a GUI method to change a folder icon (and yes, I know what an emblem is). I'm still googling. Meanwhile, is there any config file one can hack to do the trick?

I'm realising that there's a lack of good orange and black XMMS themes. :\ Oh well.

Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper without anything fancy, 'cos I can't download anything fancy. XD
I'LL UPGRADE ONE YEAR.

APPERANCE
GTK theme is Clearlooks-Dusk
Metacity theme is Shiny-Tango-Orange...but it
XMMS Theme is Frugal-Xmms
Icon Theme is Blangerine
All of which are from Gnome-Look, where I live.
Wallpaper is from the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya series, found on AnimePapers.net.

PROGRAMS
- Nautilus
- XMMS
- Konqueror (because we all know running a KDE browser on GNOME is so much cooler)
- Epiphany
- Terminal

EDIT - Yes, I realise that Clearlooks-Dusk has the blue. I can't find any other themes I like so I just deal with it. XD

For some reason sonata keeps saying that I have 0 songs. How did you configure your MPD Connection?

You have to use MPD/MPC to set up the database. In /etc/mpd.conf you have to set the path to your library (I left it as default then made a symbolic link). Then you'll do, in the terminal, something like this:

mpd ls|mpd add
I can't remember for sure, but check the man pages for MPC/MPD.

Tenken
January 11th, 2008, 09:43 PM
I didn't need mpc to set up Sonata, after setting up the config file to point to my library, in the terminal I ran this command

mpd --create-db

then set the Preferences in Sonata to match the dir/port/host in my config file.

Sorry for the brightness :-) This is not my current setup, though. I was using it while I was creating the Pekwm Breathe themes (and I like that wallpaper). Now that they are done, I'm back to a much darker setup. See the attached screenshot.

The file manager is Thunar. If you haven't used it before, I highly recommend it.

yeah, those are just the default human icons/emblems.

in nautilus, certain icon themes (like nuoveXT 2) have different emblems, but in thunar, they just show up as the generic default ones. human is the only one of my themes with different emblems in thunar.

Well, I'm using Myriad Web, size 9 (except for the clock, which is in Calibri, also size 9), and I followed these instructions in this following thread:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=2944534&postcount=4

Could you by any chance direct me to Myriad Web?

Hey, does anybody know of a good GTK theme to go with my theme? I like firefox better than konqueror and there is gimp that both use gtk, but I want them to blend.

why don't you just use the gtk-qt-engine? (it forces gtk apps to follow qt themes and fonts.)

I've been using this with KDE4. It doesn't fit in perfectly, but it looks pretty nice.

That is part of kdemod I think, not to sure. It might be konqueror in general. I've only been using kde for two days right now. Still figuring it out. I got the qt engine to work though. I needed the kdemod one. It still left a lot of things ugly though.

Changes I've made in the last month:
1. Messed around with conky.
2. Changed the window theme (details can be provided).
3. Gone back to icons on the desktop.
4. Messed around with devilspie in relation to conky and terminal.
5. Stuck a terminal window to desktop 1 (you have to look closely to see it, the scroll bar is on the left).

Attached are a couple screen shots.

You're very welcome, I am still struggling with reading gtkrc files too. With this theme though it supports changing the colour through gnomes appearence settings. There is a colour tab in the customize settings area. If you aren't using the gnome enviroment though I have no idea how to set them.

Do not worry, I'm about to remove Vista. This is what it looks like on my P4 1.6ghz, 768MB RAM, GeForce 6600 GT. Vista Home Basic w/ major tweaking involved.

Runs smooth as hell. ALT+TAB out of MapleStory and it does it as quick as XP. No joke. Runs as fast as XP (maybe even faster). I never thought it could happen.

Still, TinyME > Vista.

Oh, and for all those wondering, YES, I have a valid Vista license. I didn't buy it, traded my Steam account for it. D:

You know what, I don't want to torture him and I'm tired of you guys saying that we should. Its funny I know the system, so why am I being punished still? What I have done in the past has always been in self-defense and is minimal in comparision.
