i dont get it?
Is this a shot at the fact vista does not look like this, or is it saying Ubuntu should look like what vista was suppsoed to look like?
becasue in my opinion, ubuntu already looks far better then that.
thoes effects got annoying.

Maybe if we take some points that longhorn had into ubuntu 8.10?
Like this:
- Every user has a personal picture in the login screen
- When a directory is only filled with images you get a special window with previews etc.
- More flasy and shiny stuff:)
Next year I'm learning to program so then I go help inplenting some stuff..

Each user already have the possibility to have a personnal picture on login screen.
In term of shinny stuff compiz is really far more advanced than any other project so i would better say that windows should work really hard to come at the level where compiz and OSX are currently:

Now that released Vista (and took over Ubuntuers to Vista) let's strongly get a compeition. Maybe for now:
* Ubuntu's desktop should be KDE + GNOME and users have a choice, either install KDE over the Web or stick with GNOME (KDE will just not be on the live CD)
* Xubuntu left alone
* Kubuntu left alone
* Gobuntu left alone
* Edubuntu left alone
* Make usplash more like Vista

we already have that choice ubuntu or kubuntu and the kubuntu live cd will install the kde desktop by default

I think what LinuxGuy1234 wanted to say was that only Gnome should be made available officially, and KDE should be made a choice to install through the internet if wanted.
That's not really a good option though. Its much better as it is, because it serves users that like KDE as well as users that like Gnome. Xubuntu (and Fluxbuntu, Geubuntu, etc.) help users that like lightweight WMs and/or users with low end computers.

You can do that. Just type a simple command into the terminal and it's downloading KDE for you.

I know, I know, but what I understood from that post was that cds of the other variants should not be supported anymore.
I might have just misinterpreted though.

It would actually be a lot simpler to just have one GNOME liveCD and then provide instructions on how to install new environments, cause it's not really hard or anything for a newbie to use the terminal to download KDE or something.

ugh, flashy is over rated in my opinion.
I take stability.
but then again this is why I like OSX, its flashy and stable for the most part
