Do you use beta software?

When, why, and what?

Now, because it is better and stable enough, Opera 9.50b.

Well some beta software stays that way for years and years... wine and mplayer are two that haven't quite reached 1.0 for example. In cases like that where it believe it is stable enough and has a useful purpose then I use it.

I tend to dist-upgrade rather early, so yes.

I used the ITOS2008 beta software for my N800 too.

Also, if you beleive all those web applications calling themselves "beta", then almost everyone falls under this category.

I try beta software like Ubuntu pre releases in the LiveCD way

I use some beta software. For example, I use Enlightenment 17 from CVS.

I use IBM Lotus Symphony. It's kind of fun to beta test something, you suddenly have an excuse to try ridiculous things on it.

Having developed commercial software for about 15 years, I can honestly say that all software is beta software...

I used Firefox Gran Paradiso. I found it faster and (amazingly) more stable. I gave up though because for some reason it would not accept my bookmarks. I should use the newer beta of firefox (minefield I think)

Opera 9.5b is the only Beta I'm using now, and I'm trying and failing to get KDE4 up and running (ironically my main problem is in compiling QT4.3)

If it fixes a bug that I ran into in the stable version, then yes I would use it over the stable version.

I don't want to risk ruining anything, so no, although I did participate in the Ad-Aware 2007 beta.

I did use SVN AWN for a bit but using a dock is much more cluttered than a panel. I also use some of my own code which is pretty much always in Beta (or Alpha for that matter) :)

Nothing else i need is in Beta.

I use Debian Testing, which I consider might be considered a beta OS.
