I have created a little project that is to be a big list of blogs with people posting about Linux. If you have a blog and post about Linux (in general, or about a certain distribution), you are more than welcome to add your blog to this list.

There are currently 8 categories, but more can be created if necessary.

If you have any suggestions to make towards it, just let me know, and I'll see if I can implement it to it :D

http://php.8ez.com/linuxblogs/

PS> The submit button (at the top) is to add new links to the list, and the report button is to report broken links or blogs that are not posting about linux, and shouldn't be on the list.

Have fun :)

I have a blog and I post about Linux more often than not would it be fine if i added my self even though it isn't Linux exclusive.
I would also link back there if you wanted.

Sure, go right ahead. If you post about linux, anything about it, add yourself to the list under a category ;)

Last I recall, Wordpress.com has some limited features, whereas if you host it yourself, you can choose any themes, and any plugins.

I was just thinking about this. ... Does it screen for duplicates at all? Can you put your blog in more than one category? Or is that what "General" is for?

I'll add mine. :)

Currently, no. It doesn't screen for duplicates. I'll have to think that one out, on how to prevent it. But it is possible.

And the general category, was just for Linux in General, not really a specific distribution, I guess :)

You might also make a Kde and Gnome section under general. Since my tposts lean more toward the gnome side of Linux.

Wow I'm still first this is really great. I have had like seven times the hits since it has been posted there.

I reordered the lists alphabetically, so instead of first poster to a category always showing on top, it now arranges them all in alphabetical order, making it easier to find a certain blog.

There.
If you check it out now, you will see that I have added Category Counters for each category.

Also, there is a total counter at the bottom of the page :)

It would be nice if there was more options there. right now it is fine but if there be come a lot more it will be hard to find things there.

Well, make some suggestions, and I'll see if I can code it in. I am only able to do so much (my lack of knowledge on certain stuff hinders me), but if you make some suggestions, I'll see if I can come up with a way to implement it.

Trying to decide...is there a 'moral' issue submitting blogs that aren't actually your own....more of a recommendation do you think?

Because.....! (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1278284&postcount=1)

Nothing other than there are a few on this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1278284&postcount=1) list I would recommend on your list, however they are not mine. Sorry if I was not clear!! Just re-read my last post....didn't quite sound as intended, sorry!

Oh, lol. That's ok.
It's fine if you want to submit other people's blogs to the list. I'm sure they wouldn't mind getting a little extra traffic. But if anyone does complain, I can remove it from the list, upon request.

So, go ahead and add some other people's if you want to ;)

You should make a sorter to sort out the non English blogs or others for who ever needs it.

kr0n1x
December 31st, 2007, 10:32 AM
maybe... for sort various language blog... you can insert (in Submit page) a menu for choice the language... and the language will be listed after the blog name in the list...

Dr Small

That is possible, and can be done. I may think about it.
But for the last day, I have been working on a capatcha image for the submit page, incase I get hit by bots, so it won't flood the database with a bunch of usesless links (spam...)

So, if you check out the submit page, you'll see the capatcha image on the page (an image with numbers only). Just fill out the numbers in the text box below, and it will submit your entry to the database.

DR. you might think of adding a water mark to the right side of the page to make it a little more appealing.

It would also be appealing to have them sorted my the most recent post for high users like me who go to allot of the blogs and would like to be able to only go to a site once a day or so.

I just finished coding a new feature into the project, that adds a counter per link. This way we can determine which links are more popular, pubically.

The counter for each is set to zero by default, so the only way to raise it is to visit links. If you notice the links, they are crafted as "cpu.php?url=1", which does the counting and then redirecting.

Please report any bugs you may find. :)

Nice site, I added my blog to it. However, it looks a little bland at the moment - would you like me to have a go at making a layout for you?
I also have a few feature suggestions:

Blog description
(Optional) Blog owner name / email
Blog language
Simple search feature

Dr Small
May 11th, 2008, 06:44 PM
Well, it was ment to be simple and somewhat bland for a reason. There are still people on dialup internet, so plus the time to load the SQL queries + images, styles makes it longer to load.

Most of the blog description, owner / name / email / language is really up to them, on their own blog. The search can be done with CTRL + F with most modern browsers, considering it is on a single page.

Thanks for you suggestions, but I am more favored to a minimalistic approach, as there are users with slow internet and computers. I am also an Arch user, thus my reasoning for KISS... oh that's right... you're an Archer too :)

Well, I've tidied up the HTML for you and fixed all but one errors. The one error I can't fix is because it is required for lightbox to work. Use it or not, it's up to you.
