My iPod finally kicked the bucket today after a lengthy decline, and now that I use Ubuntu exclusively, I am in many ways glad to be rid of its restrictions and native lack of format support. But now I need to find a replacement player with three characteristics:
Must work with Ubuntu
Must support FLAC and MP3 formats
Must have at least 80GB of storage space
Most of the difficulty comes in the third requirement. I've been able to find plenty of players that will play FLAC, notably Cowon (http://www.cowonamerica.com/)'s and iRiver (http://www.iriver.com/)'s lineups but all of them seem to have smaller hard drives (usually 40, sometimes 60, GBs), and my music collection is just not that small. Preferably, I'd like it to have some room to grow, so the bigger the hard drive, the better.
It seems like my best bet for a large hard drive portable audio player is, alas, the iPod Classic, but it doesn't support FLAC (which is a necessity since I have loads of FLAC files and prefer to rip all my CDs in FLAC so that I can make true backups). This wouldn't be too much of a problem since I could install Rockbox (http://www.rockbox.org/) like I did with my current iPod, but Rockbox doesn't support the Classic.
Any other Ubuntu users have large-storage players with FLAC support?
