Whos Installed Edubuntu?

I have the preview installer, and im ready to install it.

But I want to have an idea of what im going to get if I do install it.

Is this bad boy just a redux of K12 Dist? http://k12ltsp.org/

I tried but unlike other ubuntu relases it did no automatically find the network or set up DHCP. So at that point I gave up.

I have installed the workstation only. It is nice. Contains lot of educational games and softwares. System administration is also easier as many things can be accessed from the menu. However, I think lot many educational softwares are not included. Not even all the kdeedu softwares I suppose. I haven't checked in detail. Will confirm in the next post. Also shall install the server version in a few days.

I still have not done the full installation of Edubuntu. However, the workstation installation gives a fair idea about the softwares installed.

My observations are as follows:

1. Many more educational softwares and games are required to be installed. Another educational distro KnoSciences (http://gistlabs.homelinux.net/Knosciences/index.html) contains many more educational sw and games

2. The educational softwares and games seems to be heavily skewed for students of lower classes (kids) and higher KG classes( K-9 to K-12). However there are hardly any software or games for students of middle level (say from K-5 to K-8 )

3. Atleast one inrnet based e-learning or centent-management software requires to be included in the final version of Edubuntu with full localisation support. There are many such sw like ATutor, Dokeos, Moodle etc.

4. Most of the educational softwares and games don't have the help file installed. The softwares should come with help files.
