Hackers as in programmers, or "hackers" as in what the mainstream media calls crackers?

unless you are a hacker in the sense of "hacking a linux OS"(programming) you shouldn't be offended... and I called him a "want to be" hacker - that's not calling him a hacker.

That was pretty funny. Reminds me of a Scandinavian guy who once claimed he'd hacked Scientology. He send them an e-mail notifying them that they'd been hacked, all their data copied, and if they wanted proof they should just log on to 127.0.0.1. They were quite shocked when they did, and discovered all their files there. They even went as far as getting the guy tracked down and then pressed charges against him, before it got through to them what had really happened. I'd like to think they fired their sysadmin after that incident.

even if one were an expert in knowing computers and how to make them work, it does not classify them as a hacker

There is a community, a shared culture, of expert programmers and networking wizards that traces its history back through decades to the first time-sharing minicomputers and the earliest ARPAnet experiments. The members of this culture originated the term ‘hacker’. Hackers built the Internet. Hackers made the Unix operating system what it is today. Hackers run Usenet. Hackers make the World Wide Web work. If you are part of this culture, if you have contributed to it and other people in it know who you are and call you a hacker, you're a hacker.

Popular hacker software includes "Comet Cursor", "Bonzi Buddy" and "Flash".

:lolflag::lolflag::lolflag:

I remember that stupid Bonzi Buddy thing...

OH My God...is this thing real?

8. Is your son obsessed with "Lunix"?

BSD, Lunix, Debian and Mandrake are all versions of an illegal hacker operation system, invented by a Soviet computer hacker named Linyos Torovoltos, before the Russians lost the Cold War. It is based on a program called "xenix", which was written by Microsoft for the US government. These programs are used by hackers to break into other people's computer systems to steal credit card numbers. They may also be used to break into people's stereos to steal their music, using the "mp3" program. Torovoltos is a notorious hacker, responsible for writing many hacker programs, such as "telnet", which is used by hackers to connect to machines on the internet without using a telephone.

Your son may try to install "lunix" on your hard drive. If he is careful, you may not notice its presence, however, lunix is a capricious beast, and if handled incorrectly, your son may damage your computer, and even break it completely by deleting Windows, at which point you will have to have your computer repaired by a professional.

If you see the word "LILO" during your windows startup (just after you turn the machine on), your son has installed lunix. In order to get rid of it, you will have to send your computer back to the manufacturer, and have them fit a new hard drive. Lunix is extremely dangerous software, and cannot be removed without destroying part of your hard disk surface.
