I'm being ripped off, but theres nothing I can do about it, damn monopolistic bastards and their "12 gb is enough for everybody" ********! So in reality I pay something like 100 € (100 EUR (EUR) = 144 USD (USD)) because they charge 1 €/1 Gb extra, if you don't pay you get 26kb down.

i really have no idea, i know comcast limits people at around 300GB a month(they harass the top .01% of customers for bandwidth use, no real limit). but for bellsouth i can't find any info on a bandwidth cap per month.

does any one else know?

in leicester i'm with the UK free software network, and they're pretty good

its an 8meg connection, but they support up to whatever your area's lines can support, £30/month with 300GB off peak limit, and a 30GB peak limit, and no bandwidth shaping, ie it doesn't cap your speed if you use bit torrent :)

I think its much better to have a nice big download limit these days instead of "unlimited" packages with fair use policies

also the UK free software network uses it's profits to fund open source projects

Although Virgin Media do advertise our service as "No Limits BB" they do in fact have a Traffic Management (http://www.virginmedia.com/help/traffic-management.php) policy in place so the term "No Limits" is debatable i`d say.
Any downloading can easily be done through the night so it`s neither here nor there to me in reality.I`m lucky if i download a few Gig a month never mind the 100`s & 100s` of Gig i know many do download.

I should pay £37 for our 20Mb service but actually pay £25(atm).In fact i`ve never paid the full £37 for the 20Mb service and there was even a time i paid much less than the £25 i do now..They eventually realised their mistake needless to say.
We pay £45 in total for XL TV,BB & free evenings & weekends on the phone so not too bad.

Yes that is about right 18-19 real world speed but I live in a block of 12 flats (apartments) so I imagine that doesn't help. Also other problems such as Sky insisting the satellite box is always connected to the phone and not being able to plug the router in the socket nearest the front door logistically.

I read an article last month that BT has developed a new gizmo called an I-Plate that you install inside the master phone socket to digitally remove all the interference and get full speed: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/10/01/bt_broadband_boost/

I live in Poland and am currently shackled to Telecom Polska because of a contract my landlord has with them. Because of the deal he signed up with, I have a 5GB transfer limit (up and down totals) per month on my crappy ADSL line (140k down/38k up maximum-real-world speeds).

They don't throttle traffic as far as I can tell. I'm not sure what the charges are for going over, but it's not much. I routinely go well over 100GB, and sometimes close in on 200GB per month (Yay Torrents!) and I've never had a bill (that includes residential telephone service) that exceeds PLN$150 (€38.65 or US$49.18 )
