If connection stability doesn't improve soon I'll be switching to bethere.co.uk in the New Year. 24mbps down, 1.3mbps up: oh yeah :guitar:

If you are connected through a Belgian ISP make sure you download as much as possible data (doesn't really matter what) on december 30th!

As far as I can see now, the average internet connection nowadays is 3/6mbps

A pretty good one considered as "average"

Of course this Norvegian and Swedish one 100mbps is amazing...

Holy crap! I'm so frickin' happy with my current connection at 3mb, I honestly wouldn't know what to do with that kind of connection. I'm happy with 8 or so minutes to download a 30 min program. I get this kind of throughput on my WinXP box, but not on one Ubuntu box.

How did this speed get achieved? I cannot continue to use Ubuntu, or any flavor Linux, without getting better throughput on the web. The best speed I have had was 5000kbps download 1500kbps upload on Kubuntu on an older wireless PC card in a laptop.

The norm for Ubuntu on any of my desktops has been around 1000kbps d/l and 1500kbps u/l.

Is there, or is there not a fix for this. I really do NOT want to go away from Linux. I DO want to dump Microsoft from my computers... What gives?

though my isp said it provides me a 10Mb speed but i think it is fake. the 10Mb/s speed is only for local connection [the speed with the places that near me]. when i visit foreign sites as newyorktimes and washington post it is always slow - not as fast as visiting local site. i think speed link to this forum is only one tenth of 9205kb/s. don't know if anyone experience this matter?
http://www.speedtest.net/result/241206333.png (http://www.speedtest.net)

edit: i pay ~15USD for a month, which is not cheap here. some isp here provides a very good price of 6USD 1.5Mb/s for a month

edit: i test with the server outside my city

the speed drops ridiculously! i visit foreign sites more frequently than local sites. i know there's a IX exchange server located in my city and therefore the speed is 10Mb/s for local. but for foreign sites it is slow.. shouldn't it tell me both the 'internal' and 'external' speed in the advertisement [e.g. for local 10Mb/s, for foreign 0.5Mb/s] so that i would choose one with the fastest 'foreign' rather than the 'local' connection speed!

My internet connection is nominally 256 kbps download, 64 kbps upload, 24/7 here in Australia. I live within 100Km of Sydney, in a semi-rural area. My ISP, bigpond.net.au, claims 512/128 kbps to be available in my locality, should I wish to upgrade my service.

I am paying $60/month (AUD) for this service.

I am not getting the connection speed I am paying for. There are times when the net becomes as slow as, or perhaps even slower than, 56 kbps dialup. I understand that this is due to contention ratios, which is geekspeak for 'my ISP has not hired enough bandwidth for the traffic'. These slowdowns affect access to major local sites, not just international ones.

I think my ISP thinks I haven't noticed all this. They are wrong!

They are also wrong if they think I haven't noticed their double-paged ads in the Sunday papers for new connections @ $15/month for the same nominal speed or better. All this promises me is further degradation of service.

And the ISP does not support Linux.

Not happy, Jan!

Us Aussies should get more in terms of speed than this crap. Come on, if Kevin Rudd can do something about the Kyoto Protocol, why isn't he dealing with our internet speeds? Maybe we should move to Korea :P

I get 8Mb/s actual download speeds (not pretend or test rates) from servers within Japan. Even cross-continental downloads peak between 2Mb/s and 6Mb/s, sometimes more. DSL in Japan is definitely worth the money.
