There was a recent wave of Chuck Norris "facts" and similiarly themed avatars.
Here is what Carlos Ray Norris has to say... http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071222/en_nm/norris_lawsuit_dc

The Chuck Norris meme is deader than PCLinuxOS forum and quite irritating. I'm glad he's suing Penguin.

Hopefully, not Tux.

I remember one of those stories that one guy started on the forum... i think tux round house kicked chuck in to hell. I don't think chuck will make that mistake again :)

Whoops! I didn't intend this thread to yet another Chuck Norris thread. I was hoping something new would come out of it.

Not that I mind the least bit. There are quite a few other topics duplicated, and some much less useful. But how did you not intend this to be yet another Chuck Norris thread when you titled it 'Chuck Norris'?
Just out of curiosity.

I find it odd that he would sue for something like this. Remember when he was in that one Mountain Dew commercial. Seems like he supported reinforcing the tough-guy image to me.

Read the article. Some of the "jokes" are racist and blatantly offensive. They're using his name to tarnish his reputation, without his permission, and not even giving him a portion of the revenue.

Not only that, but remember this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=n8QAeoFdM5g) video of Chuck Norris reading his favorite top 10 on a talk show.

the thing is he was fine with the non-racially/sexually offensive chuck norris jokes until someone tried to make a profit off of them. if someone used my name and image without asking you can bet i'd sue them too, especially if they were linking me to racist and sexist comments.

I'd say that's what the whole point is. If the author's would have stated that all profits were going to some Norris approved charity, the law probably would of never happened.

Hindsight is 20/20.
I should have named it after his real name, which I did post, to emphasize this is about a real person, not the mythical image that was created.
I never took part in the other Chuck Norris threads, but I read them and was familiar with the theme. I thought it odd he (Mr. Norris) had no comments I could find on it. I found the article and thought it was interesting.
I never watched one of his movies before, maybe I should someday.

I cant watch this at work now, but if its the one including,
'chuck norris' tears can cure cancer, pity he never cries'
they were not chosen by him and he was (quite rightly) visibly unsettled by that one.
Many of those jokes are terrible, some were funny and he took them in good taste, but people take advantage, just like all the mr.t jokes.
I'll finish with a mr.t one
'I pity the fool who derives self-esteem from mocking other people'

I kind of lost respect for him when he did a commercial for Mike Huckabee stating that he wants prayer back in public schools.
