Cellphone question

I had 2 digital cameras die on me. So I was thinking of using a cellphone as a digital camera. But I do not want to sign up with any service. The question is: Must I sign up with a service in order to use the digital camera in the cellphone?

quite alot of cell phones require a working sim card inserted in order that they switch on and function...

dont know where you are from but in UK service providers are giving pay as you go type sim cards away for free, so just stick one of them in there. If they dont give them away free in your country, they dont cost much to buy..

No, i've used many cell phones without a sim card. You just can't place a call, obviously.

Kind of pointless though. I hope you realize that cell phone cameras aren't even close in quality to digital cameras. And they aren't cheaper either.
