Has anyone here messed with a pure Unix computer?

I got this little mini computer, which has an X86 in it, and all it was designed to run was Unix (and this includes Linux, and Ubuntu works on it too!). It doesn't have the BIOS support to run DOS or Windows or any other operating system, just Unix/Linux...

This is how it POSTs on mine..

A/V Functions:
Video: ATI Rage Pro AGP 2X (Built-In)
Video Memory: 2 MB Onboard, 0 MB SGRAM Module
Pre-Boot Video Settings: 640 X 480, 60 Hz, 24-bit (Set In Firmware By User)

Extra Devices:

PCI 2: None
ISA: None

Boot Order:
USB: No Device
Floppy Drive: No Disk
ATAPI Drive 1: No CD/DVD
PATA Drive 1: Boot Loader Found (GRUB) > > Starting...

And then from there, it boots Ubuntu...

what I don't understand about this system, is why it has to report EVERY little thing, like what resolution it's booting up as, what cards are installed, if it has a touch screen or not.. really stupid if you ask me...

Best I can do is the sun sparcs/blades I have.

Sorrowful as it might sound.

Not really a computer, but my first exposure to *ix was on a teradyne/zehntel z8000 (the ATE system, not the processor) running ultrix, back in around 1988.
I barely knew my way round DOS and suddenly I had to learn ls, chmod, groups etc.
We accessed the system from a 286 running dos, and procomm.
Didn't get much further than moving and sharing files though.
