Has anybody seen this video?

Well if you haven't, you ought to :)

http://storyofstuff.com/

It is kinda long (20 minutes), but it is filled with all of the succinct, needed info about the subject at hand.

Yeah, I've seen it. A friend sent it to me about a week ago. Amazing video. I'm a tropical ecologist and have been working in natural resources and conservation all my life. It really explains in a nut shell how our planet is being destroyed. A must see for inquisitive people. Neocons might want to do something else.

alot of her facts are just wrong, there leaning in the right direction but over exagerated

its not 5% of original forests in the us, its 30%, fact is the north east and the west coast are the only real large forests and alot of those are protected

ontop of that foresting is the only thing that leads to large ammounts of trees being planted

i get information all the time about this online and the discovery channel

this is just extremist propaganda to me, i belive every good conversation has one good hyperbole but this is loaded with them

Interesting, thanks.

And in a way, Linux actually helps as it works on older computer that might have otherwise been thrown away. :)

and since i upgrade a component about every 4 months its a common occurance

i hate to waste perfectly good things

Withour doin an extensive Google search, the figures that I remember seeing in different sources regarding remaining original forests in the US range from 1% to 10%. Also the WRI (World Resources Institute) has calculated that there are no frontier forests left in the US (large tracts of original forest).

In a discussion, debate, etc., one chooses data to back up an argument, and for that reason virtually all discussions/debates are slanted to a particular point of view. I think that the "Story of Stuff" was very well done and presents its argument very convincingly- the main thesis being that our current world economic and resource management system is destroying our natural resource base.

My take on this video is that although it does seem to exaggerate certain figures and facts, that is exactly what is needed to 'woo' people into taking action, and doing something about it.

Same with me.
I've never discarded a whole computer with working parts.
