8GB Sandisk Sansa e280

Pros:
- I got it for only $100 on Black Friday.
- It's Linux-friendly.

Cons:
- The POS doesn't support Rockbox, because it's version 2.
- I have to boot into Vista and use crappy software to get videos on the player.

Conclusion: I wish I had a black 30GB 5.5G Ipod with all it's proprietary goodness and Rockbox on the side.

30GB 5gen Apple firmware
20GB 4gen Apple firmware

mine and my wife's, respectively.

I tried rockbox, but it just didn't rock my socks. My buddy used Rockbox...his iPod stopped working. Couldn't get audio from the jack-- but could from the data connector. It's unlikely that it was Rockbox as Apple firmware users reported the same 'issue'.

8gb Rockboxed Sandisk Sansa e280 (v1 hardware).

Thinking of adding a micro sd card but not sure if Rockbox will support it.

I have an 8gb iPod Touch with 1.1.2 software I believe.
I honestly love it in every way. I listen to music all the time, I use the calender (Now that you can edit), and video podcasts are beautiful.

Sadly, I only boot into Windows to use it, but I plan on jailbreaking it soon.
I was just planning on waiting for the jailbreak software to work on 1.1.2.
I know I could downgrade to 1.1.1, but I don't want to bother.

Other thing is February there is supposed to be an SDK for 3rd party apps, yet I'm sure that won't offer the same functionality has hacking...

I bought the same 8GB iPod Touch last Monday, and jailbroke version 1.1.2 in less than 20 minutes. Now it runs over 60 applications, games, ebooks, google maps, 4 different email accounts, weather, todo list, notes, text editor, finder, loads of NES games, loads of Gameboy Advance games, I even control my Ubuntu and Windows machines wirelessly with VNC :) this device become worth its weight in gold when it is jailbroken. If I couldn't jailbreak it, it wouldn't be worth the money for me.

Forgot my iPod today, so my Portable media device is a Compaq Presario v4000, running kubuntu gutsy with Amarok + kirocker. This also does email, google maps, games, thousands of applications, photos....

thats one heck of a portable media player

[most people call them Mp3 players or iPods there is no middle ground but calling an mp3 player an mp3 player is wrong cuz it plays other formats too]

whats a jailbreak for iPod Touch? [i get the basic idea that it's a downgrade]
