Boredom At Work - How To Fix

It's 3pm and since 12pm I have had nothing to do at work. It's a dead day and the last 3 hours of spectrum games at WoS has given me a headache. I am now in the computer room and have found a new game. Avoiding the infrared sensors in the cieling. I can make it halfway across the room without being detected now.

What do you do when you're bored?

That is probably the coolest thing I've ever heard anyone do while bored at work.

I personally don't work, but I would probably take a nap or something.
Actually scratch that I would find a nice coding project to do. : D

I always keep a stash of beer at my job, so that when I'm boored I get the beer and my iPod loaded with podcasts or tv-shows and take a "blind ****" (i.e. I sit on the toilet drinking beer and watching shows) works like a charm :)

Id say just the exact same. nut once un a while there is and unusual day with not much to do, then i just play around with some different linux distros here at work or begin coding python again :)

Right now i'm working at home ( thanks to an accident i broke my foot )
so here when i'm bored, i kick in the TV and watch a show...

anyhow. when NOT being injured and in at the office, i start reading bash.org, or slashdot... or even. i start doodling some graphics.

Building the executables and converting game content takes a big amount of time(although distributed building fixes that partially), so we usually fill the gap by surfing the internet for porn.

Well, you're lucky you have internet; at my work, internet has been broken for the last 2 weeks (and there's nothing to do there lately). If I only had internet these days at work, I would be nearly happy, but the guys that administer the network have done nothing to solve it.

Why not downloading and burning PuppyLinux and have some fun installing it to your USB key, and then surfing the net from Puppy? That's what I do when I'm bored at work and the boss is not around (it's a library and all the machines have windows, so I think I'll be in problem if they catch me using linux there).

oh, and by the way; I'm obviously at home at the moment, since I can use the internet to reply here :p

I guess it must be because you mentioned the P word, although I don't think it's against the forum rules, I couldn't find anything about using that word. If it is because of that, you should direct the admin who gave you the infraction to

A NEW JOB? no way man. I've managed to get myself into the position being able to be at work from 8am - 4pm (mon - fri, all national holidays off, all school holidays off), during those 8 hours I only actually have max 4 hours work that is my responsibilty. Of the 4 hours free time, I get to leave the premises for one hour, the rest of the time I either study or occupy myself with other things. Very occaisonally there are days with ZERO work, sometimes those days get boring, thats when I dodge IR sensorz.

I get full time salary for part time work, great hours, incredible holidays and get paid to study. Why would I want to change jobs_?

I work in a second echelon maintenance shop. That means that if the communications equipment is broken, I can fix the knobs or the dust boots. If it's really broken, I have to send it to the next higher echelon. This leads to many a boring day in this shop.

Thankfully, I'm the boss... oh, wait, I'm the only one in my section, too :D

Essentially, if I'm bored I get on the forums here, work on my personal web page, surf Woot, Slashdot, etc, and generally go home about 3 hours early.

Your tax dollars at work. Maybe they'll send me back to Iraq so I can actually do my job...

We can keep beer at work, we just can't drink until 5pm. I have a lot of downtime also, i am only really busy at the begining/end of the month when our remote locations are trying to close their AR and get all their medicare and medicaid claims into their various state departments.

This makes me wonder what the employees at the remote locations do when i have downtime.

To kill boreddum i surf the net, mess around with linux on a second PC that i built. talk on the phone, watch tv. we made our boss install a TV so that we could watch the world cup a couple years ago. He said that he would rather have the TV instead of everyone in the corporating streaming the games online and killing all the bandwidth. So i get to watch wonderous daytime tv sometimes, or whatever sporting/news event is on. i chat online, i am even allowed to call my parents in Africa. Pretty sweet job, just the pay sucks and sometimes the hours and end user stupidity are unbelievable. If you have a state deadline to get some paperwork in then there are no exceptions. the paperwork is late then we get less money for our medicare/medicaid claims, then the owner is angry and you don't want ot mess with him. he is very intimidating. in fact if the IT department was in the same building as the corporate office in Miami i would not have lasted this long. instead we are a 30 minute drive away in fort lauderdale. getting chewed out over the phone for something that has nothing to do with you, is alot easier to take than getting chewed out in person.
