Here's some nice publicity about one of our members.

I saw this linked from Groklaw's sidebar.

GROKLAW.

Good job, Chris!

The cynic in me is thinking that the kids will be learning two sets of software--Microsoft in schools, and the Free world at home.

Then again, I don't see this as bad. I'm glad you were able to convince them to give it a shot.

Unfortunately the Carroll County Tech Council uses donated XP licenses for their CompuKids program, because they wanted to avoid that situation.

I don't buy it, honestly. The kids will be able to figure it out. They're kids. They learn. It's what they do.

I wonder if there is something our froup could do to help spread Ubuntu along these lines? It might be worth looking into, I'm sure at the least there are schools somewhere in Maryland that could really use some donated computing possibly running edubuntu.

Very nice. I can't believe I missed this! Way to go! Unfortunately, Ubuntu isn't mentioned in the article... and, ironically, Microsoft Windows and Office are. Go figure.
