Microsoft now offers a free copy of Windows Vista Ultimate in the USA, if you're willing to give up your privacy.

Article here (http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4139).

Thoughts?

EDIT:

Ops, read the article a little to fast. It's not free anymore.

The software isn't being offered anymore. Now, your privacy is worth nothing.

I would've done it. If they want to watch me look at porn and do homework assignments and chat with friends, I don't care, I've nothing to hide.

Pheww...I would rather buy that OS than give MS any private info.
But, does your privacy really differ even if you buy it? :)

I actually saw MS's website yesterday when they were still offering it. You had a choice between Vista Ultimate, Office 2007 Ultimate, and a few other things. About an hour later I checked again and they had removed all reference to free software. The bad thing is that when it was on there, they said the deadline was something like Dec. 29, 2007. They must have gotten flooded.

Now the FAQ says that in consideration for your participation, they will give you licenses for the software that they will be using to track you. Gee, thanks.

But that's Microsoft biggest problem: even if it was free it couldn't compete with Ubuntu. They would actually have to pay me a fair bit of cash to use Vista.

MS have closed the offer. Demand was such that they have used the allocated stock

I'm not jabbing fun at you, that sentence just sounds absurd to me. Did they run out of physical discs to install it? MS running out of software, bah.

Same here, I wouldn't use Vista without getting a payment either. No OS will ever make me stop using Linux.

Its called budgeting. When you do a campaign you allocate a finite amount to be applied. Its sound commercial sense.
